I get so excited to try new vegan places, and I'm seldom in the city. However, last weekend my twinnie and I went to the city for dinner and to see a comedian (btw: her name is Iliza Schlesinger and she has 2 specials on Netflix I highly recommend), and my twinnie, who's not a vegan but volunteered to be vegan for a meal with me, actually picked this place since it was close by, and I've always wanted to try it! Their dinner menu isn't extensive, but it looked delicious. Oh, and did I mention desserts? Cause like...
Those giant chocolate covered balls on the bottom are in fact chocolate covered cake balls! I got a Peanut Butter cookie for the road, and Courtney got a slice of chocolate cake to go.
I made sure to come hungry, because I wanted to eat all the things! I love trying new vegan places, and I want to get maximum foodage, so going hungry is a must! Dinner is served from 4:30pm to close. Their food is organic and gluten free, for my gluten sensitive people!
The atmosphere was cozy, the wooden touches for the menu and drink menu (non-alcoholic) gave it a nice rustic touch, and the water came in a beautiful tall glass bottle instead of a pitcher, and was left at your table for refills, which is great because I drink all the water. There was no ice, so the water was room temperature, which is completely fine with me. Others may not enjoy that. I didn't get any of the cold-pressed juices since we were going to the show afterwards and I didn't want to have the pees while I was loling during the show.
Of course, I got French fries, made with organic russet potatoes, and not nearly enough ketchup, which is my only complaint but I didn't ask for more. The fries were delicious! I would've liked them a little crisper, but potatoes are my favorite carb and I will eat them in all the vegan ways I can. Plus also, French fries. That should be enough motivation.
For my entree I got the Organic Salt Baked Cauliflower Meatball Pizza. It's more like a thin crust pizza kind of deal, and it was SO GOOD. I made some adjustments to mine. Here's what the regular version came with: mushroom meatballs, roaster cauliflower, caramelized onions, miso cashew cheese, on a sweet potato millet crust topped with sautéed scallions.
So, because I don't believe onions are actual food, I requested they remove the caramelized onions and sautéed scallions, and even though I don't like mushrooms and faux meat looking food items, I did keep the meatballs. I did ask if they could add avocado, which they kindly did for a small uncharge. Avocado is almost always extra, and I will always pay extra for it, without hesitation, because avocados are life.
This pizza was DELICIOUS! I was so surprised by the mushroom meatballs because they were delicious and I ate them all. They were baked and not fried, and the texture was perfect. The crust I could just eat plain without anything on it; it was the perfect crust. The sauce and the cheese was delicious, and I dare any vegan cheese haters to try it because I think they'd be pleasantly surprised. And of course, the avocado was great because it was avocado. The coolness and creaminess of it combined with the slight warmth of the pizza was perfect. I do wish there was more roasted cauliflower because that was really good, I would definitely like more of that next time. I ate until I couldn't eat any more, and still had some pizza left and was so sad to waste it lol.
The prices are about average, all things considered. When the menu is vegan, organic, and gluten free... the prices aren't bad at all. I can't wait to go back, and am planning on going back ASAP! If you're near the area, check it out!
