Lunatick Cosmetic Labs is a company that's been on my list for literally ever. This is a small alternative brand based out of Milwaukee, WI. They are 100% cruelty free and vegan, and are perfect for spooky babes like me! The designs of their products are coffins and planchettes with bats and moons, and they have spooky names. They reached 100k likes on their Instagram page and offered a 25% discount on all products to celebrate! So, I decided it was time to treat myself!
You'll see in the photo above, this is the box they ship their products in. I love the black and white Beetlejuice Tim Burton-esque design of the box! I was even more excited to open it!
Wrapped in a bunch of layers of black tissue paper (bonus: I reuse all tissue paper I get, and I ran out of black!), and sprinkled with fun colorful confetti, lays my Supernatural eye shadow palette. Like how cute and festive is that?! I seriously loved the confetti. It's so simple but it added such a nice, fun, and festive touch!
Do you love the design of this palette or do you love the design of this palette? It's built really nicely too. It's a sturdy cardboard, and it has a magnetic closure. The magnetic closure is very secure. It won't just go flying open on you.
The designs on the inside are so amazing! I love the card reader and the crystal ball, and the two headed cat, the moons, and the planchette! Their designs are very vintage and old school ghost movie spooky. The colors on the packaging are colorful and fun and really stand out. I am obsessed with the bat shaped mirror! I'm not even kidding, the packaging sold me before anything else lol. I know that the one color is cracked, and the color next to it is chipped around the edge. I'm going to talk about the color first, then I'll get into that.
I've swatched the colors for you in three different lights in my apartment. None of them do justice to the color, like at all. Here they are:
The top swatch is my dining room light, the middle is my bathroom light, and the bottom is my bedroom light. From left to right is: Invocation, Myth, Spook, Reincarnation, and Ghoulight. This is also the same order they are in from left to right in the palette itself. The colors are seriously SO pretty. And honestly, really versatile. They're not your average nudes and neutrals, but they really do go with pretty much anything you wear. You wouldn't think it with these kind of shades, but it's an updated twist on your classic neutral eye.
Invocation is a shimmery champagne color. Myth is a matte very light neutral pink. Spooky is a slightly shimmery maroon. It's not nearly as shimmery as Invocation. Reincarnation is a matte light cocoa purple. And lastly, Ghoulight is a darker version of Reincarnation, it's a little more purple than Reincarnation though. There's not one shade I don't like. The colors apply very easily, and they are highly pigmented. A little goes a long way. These shadows are velvety smooth. The staying power is also pretty awesome. I wore it on Christmas Eve all day and night and it held up wonderfully. That's with no primer. I didn't really get any photos of my eyes themselves, but I was so stoked to receive this palette that I wore my Minnie Mouse shirt that's like an identical shade of maroon to Spook so I would match lol. I am wearing my eye shadows in the photo below but you can't really tell.
Okay, now let's talk about this broken eye shadow. These eye shadows are SUPER soft. I was actually kind of surprised that the palette wasn't wrapped in bubble wrap. Granted, they used a lot of tissue paper, but still. As soon as I turned over the palette, this happened...
BUMMERSAURUSREX! I know I could press it, but you don't spend good money on quality eye shadows just to re-press it right? It was Christmas Eve when I received it, so I sent them an email not expecting a response anytime soon because of the holiday. I posted it on Instagram because I was sad, but I had faith that Lunatick Cosmetics would replace my palette or issue me a refund after the holidays. I wasn't all that concerned. They commented on my photo saying that they would replace or refund, whichever I preferred, and that they would make up for this also considering this is my first order from them. I also received an email on Christmas Eve at 1:27pm apologizing and included a new tracking number for a new palette being sent out Saturday. I was so surprised to receive an email on Christmas Eve. That's pretty unheard of! I come home today to find a new palette waiting for me! I found out they even sent it express 2 day shipping, which was a nice surprise. I guess my only issue is, what if I had decided on a refund instead? I probably really didn't need a whole new palette, I was just being a cry baby on Christmas Eve lol. They mentioned on my Instagram that being an option, but that option wasn't presented to me. Also, they said that they would make up for this error considering it was my first order, but I didn't see anything relating to that in the box, not like a letter or anything. I'm not looking for a handout or free stuff or anything. This isn't their fault. They're not the post office, and it's not like they had any control of how it was handled after they shipped it. But considering they said something about making up for it, I just anticipated seeing something. I don't know what, but something. Overall, I'm happy with their customer service, and I will absolutely be ordering from them again.
As far as the price, this palette retails for $35. I would say totally worth the price for the amazing packaging containing 5 high quality, good color payoff, and long lasting eye shadows. They offer other products that you should definitely check out! You can also build your own custom palette if this or Hocus Pocus isn't your thing!
