If you guys have been reading my posts, you'll know that I have been struggling with Allergic Contact Dermatitis on my eyelids since I was a teenager. Now that I've determined that at least part of the cause is something in mascara, I've been trying to get as natural and gentle as I can. All this has led me to 100% Pure's Maracuja Oil Mascara. They offer two mascaras; the Maracuja is vegan and the Fruit Pigmented is not since it contains beeswax.
This mascara is colored with black tea leaves, and things like cocoa, coffee, and berries. I chose this one to try for that reason because one of the ingredients I think I may be sensitive to is Iron Oxides. This mascara may contain it because of shared manufacturing, but it's not technically an ingredient. In addition to that, the ingredients are all, as to be expected, 100% pure. I copied this directly from their website:
Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Wax, Coconut Stearic Acid, Pantothenic Acid (Pro-vitamin B5), Fucus Vesiculosus (Seaweed) Powder Extract, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Passiflora Alata (Maracuja) Seed Oil, Extracts of Aloe Barbadensis (Organic Aloe Juice) Leaf*, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Germ Powder, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Powder, Coffea Arabica (Coffee Beans) Seed, Origanum Vulgare (Oregano) Leaf, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Flower/Leaf, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower/Leaf/Stem, Hydrastis Canadensis (Goldenseal), Passiflora Alata (Maracuja) Seed, Lonicera Caprifolium Flower and Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Vegetable Glycerin, May Contain Iron Oxides * Certified Organic"
As with pretty much all 100% Pure makeup, the packaging is so pretty! Here's some photos:
I just absolutely love the pretty colorful tins they use. They have it for their blush too. Not that you need pretty packaging but we're girls and we like pretty things!
The first thing that caught me off guard but I was pleasantly surprised on was the fact that this mascara actually smells good. How many times in your life have you been able to say that about your mascara? But it's not like an artificial scent, it smells like fruit and berries.
I've seen a lot of mixed reviews on the mascara itself. Some people say it's too wet and that it clumps. Truthfully I disagree with that. However, I can't say that I'm in love with it.
I'm not a fan of the brush, for starters. It's too thick and plush for me. I prefer small and thin brushes. With the brush if you're not careful you can get mascara on your eyelids and that's not a cute look. The brush is tolerable though. I've used worse.
Here's a before and after photo with 1.5 coats:
It does a decent job lengthening, which is claims to do so. It does an okay job at thickening. My real complaint is the lack of curl. To be fair, it doesn't advertise to curl or hold a curl. But I used my eye lash curler prior to and they looked more curled than after I used the mascara. It does stay wet for a little bit, but I don't think it stays wet too long. I felt like it washed away pretty easily with water, so I don't know if I can say it's really waterproof. I didn't notice any flaking either. I prefer my Pure Anada mascara to this, and considering this is double the price, Pure Anada I feel is a better value.
However, if this mascara doesn't make my eyelids act up, I couldn't care less I'll use it and love it. I only used it once so far, but I didn't have really any issues after the fact. But, it can take a few days, so we'll see. They offer this mascara in black, brown, and blackberry. Pending my eyelids, I want to try the blackberry next. I'm a huge fan of 100% Pure. I have several of their products and I love them. So even if this mascara doesn't sound like your cup of tea, check out their other products. Shipping is always free! And they always send you some sample packs of lotion and whatnot with your purchase.
