A few weeks ago, I was browsing Sunny's blog (@veganbeautyreview - she's amazing and you should definitely follow her!), and I saw her post about Josie Maran's vegan products. I never even thought to look into Josie Maran products, but thanks to the handy list she provided of their vegan products, I did some browsing.
I was almost out of one of my powder foundations, and I was in the market for a new one. I liked my old foundation, but it was a little too powdery for me. Like I felt like you could always tell I was wearing foundation. I saw that they offered a foundation called Argan Matchmaker Foundation. They offer this in both a liquid and a powder. The liquid starts essentially white but quickly blends to match your skin tone. The powder is in a compact and it's the color marbled with white speckles throughout. It does the same thing as the liquid, but in a powder form instead. The powder doesn't start off white though, the powder has color. Both contain 100% Argan oil to nourish your skin. Also, you won't find any talc, parabens, sulfates, dyes or fragrances in these products. They offer 3 shades for each: fair/light, light/medium, and medium/dark. I chose the powder and, because light/medium is the same shade as one of my other foundations, I felt confident in trying that shade.
My skin is the most difficult shade to match. I use two foundations to match my skin, and even then, sometimes I have to adjust how much of each to match my face. And even then, sometimes I still feel like my skin doesn't match. My face is darker than my neck naturally. So basically no matter what, I never match lol. But, the idea of shade matching foundation seemed pretty awesome.
It comes with a sponge for application. One side is a basic sponge for full coverage, and the other side is flocked for sheer to medium coverage. I prefer the flocked side for my application. I tried using my usual powder foundation brush, but it wasn't working with this foundation. I'm surprised by how much I enjoy applying it with the sponge though. I've been using a brush to apply my powder foundation since 2007! But this sponge is pretty awesome!
As I mentioned before, my other foundation was powdery. This is not at all. It goes on super velvety smooth. The coverage is medium, and it still looks natural. I also don't feel like I need to apply a lot of layers for it to cover. Granted, it's not a miracle powder, which nothing is. If you have skin issues like acne scarring, you will need to apply a concealer first. Despite that, I liked this foundation more than I thought I would honestly.
There is some cons though, unfortunately. First, my T-zone gets oily using this. I might just need my face to adjust to it some, as I've only been using it since Monday. But it says that it's supposed to help excess oil, thanks to the rice starch. Mind you, it still isn't hot here yet, we've actually seen 40s/50s lately, so it's not like I'm dripping sweat. Secondly, this foundation oxidizes on my skin, which makes it darker and slightly orange. When I first apply it I feel like it looks great. But I've been in several different lights, ranging from natural and several different artificial lights, and I can see it definitely looks darker in all of the lights later on in my day. I have my Pacifica oil control primer I plan on trying underneath it to see if that helps. Also, I haven't been using finishing powder because I wanted to see how it was without it, so I plan on trying that as well to see if that helps. I think the fair/light would be entirely too light, so hopefully I can get this to work! I really like this foundation as I said, so I want to make it work for me!
I do absolutely recommend this, despite the few cons. I can't comment on the liquid, but I am considering giving it a shot maybe in the fall when my face will get dryer again. The liquid version of this foundation is $42, and the powder is $34. Shipping was free! Anything over $25 is free and under $25 is $4.95, both via USPS. They have other options for UPS too if you like. They do ship to Canada as well. Shipping was quick too. I ordered it April 30th, it got shipped May 3rd, and I received it May 5th. If you're looking for a new foundation, check these two out!
