I've been on the hunt for new concealer for awhile now. But, considering my face has a propensity to break out and have a negative reaction to basically everything, I'm cautious about what I use, to say the least. But, since I've had such success with 100% Pure I figured I would give it a shot. I also checked with customer service and they confirmed my color. So, I was ready to go.
I ordered the color Sand. Here's some photos:
Sand is a light medium neutral shade. That's the shade I am in everything. They do offer a wide variety of shades though!
One thing that caught me off guard right off the gate was this:
It was the only spot inside the bottle. It was like this green spot. Once I opened it and I mixed the wand up, it went away. It dissolved into the bottle. But it concerned me. I understand colors settle, but I found it very strange.
As soon as I opened the tube, the very first thing I noticed was the smell. It is awful. It smells like nail polish or like rubber cement. I mean, it's bad. And that really surprised me because I haven't ever had an issue with their products smelling bad. They're so natural so to smell a chemical type smell from them I was really surprised. The smell fortunately doesn't last once it's applied but it sucks in the meantime. I can deal with certain scents as long as the product works, but this fell flat in that department too. Plus, like I said, I can deal with certain scents, like something that's a little too earthy or herbally for me, but chemical smells just give me a headache.
I did reach out to them via email, asking about the strange spot and the smell, and in short, she said that the spot looked like an air bubble, and they offered to send me a replacement if I would like. I can honestly say that their customs service is out of this world. I've never had a complaint about that. Also, as for the smell, they made it clear that they don't use any artificial fragrances, chemicals, or dyes in their products, which I knew, but they said that the smell is probably due to the olive squalane.
I've gotta say, the color is off, as you can see in the swatch above on my arm. It's very orange. Layered with foundation helps, but I couldn't just use a little of this on some spots and go. Even with foundation, I can still see the orange underneath. You can layer it without it getting cakey which is good, but since the color is so off for me, layering it would only make it look worse.
Also, as far as covering dark spots, it doesn't. Even with the layers. I will say that it goes on super smooth, it dries super fast, and it doesn't leave any residue. All of that is positive, but having the wrong color and not enough coverage pretty much defeats the purpose of a concealer ya know? Personally, my power foundation does a better job covering up than the concealer itself.
So, sad to say, this one is being returned. I requested the label for it today and dropped it at the post office. I ordered the foundation too, which hasn't arrived yet, that I foresee that being returned too.
My biggest complaint is that they don't offer samples of these products! I understand whole heartedly not offering samples of bronzes, blush, mascara, eyeliner.. but liquid foundation and concealers I think samples would be super helpful! I'll happily pay for samples to allow me to find my shade without having to buy a full size, it not match, return it, buy another with no guarantees that one will match, possibly return that one too, and so on and so forth. It's just a headache, and I imagine that it's not cost effective for them either. Each person that returns $29 concealer and/or $40+ foundation that's gotta go in the trash, so why not offer samples? Even a sample card. I'm not looking for a handout, I don't need this big sample. But a sample card to help determine the shade would be helpful. I purchased the color I was recommend, the color that I am in everything else, and it doesn't match. It's just such a bummer!
Have you guys tried any of the 2nd Skin products yet? How did they work for you? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
