Let me first state, that I am a sad sad girl that OCC (Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics) has officially shut down. It was all very low key, and they had a big sale when everything was $10 and I practically kicking myself because I wish I would've bought more. A lot of times, companies have sales like that to clear out old inventory and make room for new inventory, and because I didn't see anything about them closing, that's what I anticipated. But alas, I was wrong. Last month, they basically shut down their social media accounts randomly and then there was a tweet by the founder saying they were done. So, these reviews don't really matter, because you can't buy them anymore =( There might still be some stock left in other stores, maybe even Amazon, so I would Google it if you're interested. I'll be doing that myself.
Anyway, pointless or not, let's chat about some OCC products. First up is their colored pencil in Tarred.
The cool thing about their colored pencils was that they were multi-purposeful. They could be used as an eyeliner or a lipliner. Depending on the color, they stated which they didn't recommend for eyes, so that was helpful. I use Tarred as an eyeliner. I use KVD Tattoo Liner for my cat eye, and line my inner rims, top and bottom, with Tarred. The black is dark, and it glides on smoothly. It doesn't smudge or leave raccoon eyes that I've noticed, and I spent my Friday moving desks by myself that are much bigger than I between offices and believe me when I tell you, I worked up a sweat. Overall, love the formula and I'm glad I purchased it. It's a great eyeliner.
I have polishes to blog about too, but I haven't had the chance to use them yet, so I'm going to talk about their ready to wear Lip Tar in Pagan. Whereas their other Lip Tars were in a tube and came with a brush for applying, this ready to wear Lip Tar comes in a lip gloss like tube with the little sponge on the end to apply it, just like KVD Everlasting Liquid Lipstick does.
I know in this photo, in non-natural light, it looks black. Pagan is actually a blackened purple and is literally my most favorite color ever. I took a picture in natural light too so you can see the color better.
It's blurry, but you can see the color much better in the natural light. Let me first state, I think with this Lip Tar, it was part user error and part product that kinda turned me off on it.
Let me state the pros:
1) The color will forever be a pro. It's friggin beautiful.
2) Easy to apply.
3) Keeps lips feeling moisturized and shiny, like a gloss but not.
4) Highly pigmented.
5) The color literally stains your lips. Long lasting doesn't cover it. I removed it last night when I came home from the show, and my lips were still pink, and even today, they still have a more than natural pink hue to them.
6) Has peppermint oil as an ingredient, so it's cooling and smells yummy!
Now, the cons:
1) It stains everything it gets on; skin, clothing, bag... everything. My finger is still stained.
2) It transfers onto everything it touches almost immediately. Definitely not drink or kiss proof.
3) It's runny.
4) It bleeds rather quickly.
I'm used to KVD, I know how much to apply, know how it's going to look, it never bleeds and always holds up nicely. I think, personally, I used too much this product because I was applying it like I apply my KVD. I also didn't use a lip liner, even a clear one, simply because I never have with her lipsticks. So, I didn't even think twice about this one. This is much runnier than the KVD formula, but I like the actually feeling of it on my lips better than I do the KVD since KVD is matte and I prefer a glossier finish. I hate dry feelings on my lips, so even with KVD, I apply lip balm on top of it. But even at that point, it doesn't bleed. This lip stain bled almost immediately. I have read some other reviews, and other people had similar complaints, so I think I'm going to get a clear lip liner, and try that before using this again. By the end of the night, it was a runny mess. We had gone to a show; my husband, sister, and myself, which I was dragged to, because I don't like the bands playing, yet somehow at the end, while making my sister go meet the singer (she thinks he's a babe), I ended up in a photo too lol.
I'm forever a little goth girl on the inside, what can I say?
Back to the Lip Tar, I'm going to give it another shot with the lip liner and applying less, and maybe blotting it a little bit. I'm so obsessed with the color, I couldn't bear to not wear it again!
Unfortunately, RIP OCC =,(
These things happen; makeup companies open and close all the time. They had a long run, lasting from 2005 I think until this year. Like I said, I have polishes to talk about, so this isn't the last you'll be hearing about OCC yet. I'm going to do some Googling and see if I can find any remaining stock at a decent price anywhere. I'll update if I find anything!
