Let's talk about how much I love nail polish for a minute. It's one of my favorite accessories. Like your hair, your nails are another way to express yourself. How you paint them, how you file them, the length, the designs you choose; all of it defines you. And, you can change your them as often as you want to mold your mood. That's why I love nail polishes! Sadly, most of the polishes you find at your usual drug store is not vegan and is tested on animals. Did you know most shades of red contain crushes beetles? Not your thing? Good. I don't think that should be anyone's thing. I have discovered a ton of vegan polish that are affordable, can be shipped straight to your door, and work better than those junky beetle polishes.
One of my favorite brands is OCC, which stands for Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. OCC is 100% vegan and cruelty free. They have polishes, lip tar, eyeshadow and eyeliner, concealer and tinted moisturizer. I love the name, since it's like a play on OCD. But more than the name, I love the polishes! They work AMAZING! I have only tried their products, but their color payoff is rich and highly pigmented, so I can only imagine the rest of their products are as well. They use only high quality ingredients, which I appreciate. I don't often buy their polishes because they are expensive, at $10 a bottle. Do I think they're worth that? Absolutely. Without doubt. I'm just poor and can't afford it. But, they were having a 40% off sale, so I had to take advantage!
When it comes to nail polish colors, just like all the other colors in my life, I have three basic colors I stick with more than anything else. Those are: black, gray, and purple. I have other shades that I sometimes wear, but I'm not a super colorful person in general. As you can see by my purchases above, this order was no different lol. The first photo you can see Belladonna (ultra violet), and Gryphon (opaque cement gray.) In the next photo, you can see Batty (midnight black with silver glitter), and Electric Sheep (lavender with silver shimmer.) The colors are all pretty true to what you see on the website, except Belladonna looks darker in person than it does in the photo, however, I still love it. I was fortunate, thanks to their 40% off sale, to get these for $6 each. Shipping is a little cray cray; it was $11. Typically if I have to pay for shipping, I don't buy whatever it is. However, with such good savings, I didn't even care. Even with expensive shipping, I still ended up paying less than I would've had I bought them at full price and paid no shipping. So, I still consider this a win!
As you can see from the photos above, I used Belladonna and Batty. And I am "batty" for both of them! Belladonna is so vibrant! And I just love the silver glitter mixed with true black in Batty! I haven't used the other shades yet, but when I do I'll be sure to post a picture!
I highly recommend not just these shades, but this brand in general. I only have one other shade of polish from them, and it's called Pagan. It was released last year with their fall colors, and it's a blackened purple and it is amazing! It's my absolute favorite nail polish color that I own. I frequently wash my hands, like 50+ times a day. And these polishes hold up very well considering that. If you do a lot of work with your hands, I suggest trying them out. Even if you don't, I still Suggs trying them out. Either way, you won't be disappointed. Since this company is 100% vegan you can buy anything from them without worrying about any hidden animal derived ingredients.
You can order these through their site as I said, but shipping is high. You can purchase them at Sephora, although I'm not a Sephora fan because their house brand isn't cruelty free. They said their specialty brands are, but it's too iffy for me. So I don't like giving them my money in general. But they offer a lot of fancy products you can't find at Ulta, and Sephora does carry vegan brands, so the decision is yours. However, you can order OCC polishes from their website and I think it's free shipping on hour purchase of $50 and up. No matter how you choose to buy them, just do yourself a favor and buy them! You won't be disappointed!
