I've been dealing with acne since I was a teenager, and at the old age of 27, it still doesn't show any signs of slowing down. Lucky me right?! When I break out, I can't just leave the pimple alone. I gotta pick it, and then when a scab forms, I have to pick that too. It's a compulsions (thank you OCD), and it's a vicious circle that leads to scarring and embarrassment. I'm not saying my acne is awful. I'm fortunate that I don't get cystic acne, or have like a face full of whiteheads. It's mild to moderate at best, but any acne is embarrassing. If I can stop the acne before it starts, I can't pick, and if I can't pick, then my skin will be better.
I had been using Yes To Tomatoes for years and I loved it. It kept my skin nice, for the most part, and it was affordable. However, I fear it's lost its effectiveness on my skin, and it was time to try something new.
Upon doing a lot of research, I landed on Juice Beauty. Having already tried several of their products, and loving their Green Apple Blemish Peel which is part of their Blemish Clearing System, I figured this might be the one to try. On their website, they offer a 30 day kit of their Blemish Clearing System. In it includes: 2 oz Blemish Clearing Cleanser, 1 oz Blemish Clearing Serum, .5 oz Green Apple Blemish Clearing Peel, 1 oz Oil Free Moisturizer, and 1 Eco bamboo washcloth. All of this retails for $29.99, which is a $55 value. The idea behind it makes me think of Proactive, but without the nasty chemicals. I was down to try it.
I also bought the Blemish Clearing Powder which was a separate $29. They recommend using only this for the first few weeks as a replacement to your foundation, that way you're not clogging the pores it's trying to unclog. Do I think I'll be able to wear just this alone? No way. I'll need more coverage than that. But, I'm gonna use it under my Jane Iredale powder foundation. That foundation hasn't given me any issues, so I feel confident it won't do anymore harm to my skin while it's healing. If I see enough improvement in my skin, I hope to be able to wear this on days I'm just running errands and would rather not wear a full face of makeup. Now, they only offer one color. I don't know if it's supposed to be translucent or shade matching, but I can't imagine this is one shade fits all. It looks medium in color to me. I guess we'll find out.
My biggest concern using a new skin care regimen is always the purging. While technically a good thing, because it's de-gunking your face, it's still embarrassing. I'll keep you guys posted on that part.
Clearly, I can't speak to the efficiency of these products yet because I just got them yesterday, but I wanted to give my initial thoughts on the products.
-I was surprised by the sizes. They're bigger than I had anticipated!
-The bamboo washcloth is the softest thing ever. Like I want to buy a bunch and sew them together and make a giant washcloth blanket out of them lol. If nothing else, I'm glad I got this, and will purchase more from Juice. I'm going to be using mine only in the morning, when my face is already makeup free. I figured using it with makeup on and getting it all covered in makeup won't do any good for my face. Granted I can wash it obviously, but I'm not going to wash it daily. I'll wash it every few days to a week, like I do with my regular washcloths.
-The cleanser is a gel and it's surprisingly gentle. I had some spots I picked I anticipated stinging, but it didn't. My face felt fresh and clean afterwards, and surprisingly not super tight.
-A little goes a long way with the serum. I had read other reviews about it leaving a sticky residue if you use too much and it did. In fact, even after applying the lotion, my face still felt sticky all night.
-I feel like a little goes a long way with the lotion as well. That in combination with the serum almost made my face feel slightly greasy..? I might have just used too much of both, which I think I did. I really love the smell though. It also has like a minty herbal smell, but I think it's a combination of the lemon balm leaf and sage leaf. It's a naturally soothing smell, I think.
-I think I'm gonna use much less serum, wait like 10 minutes, then apply the lotion. I think that will make a difference. I did one right after the other, and maybe it didn't allow them to fully absorb causing the residue. When it's new products like this, it's all about testing the waters since you don't know what they're like.
-I've been using the Green Apple peel for a few weeks since I got it in my Petit Vour box. If you read my blog post about it, you know I already love it. It's a product I highly recommend!
Overall, after one use, I like it, and think I'll like it better with some tweaking of the application. I'll be writing another post in a month to let you know my final thoughts, and if I'll be repurchasing!
