This is one of the samples I got from my recent Lush trip. Herbalism is a face and body wash meant for oily acne-prone skin. I've been wanting to try it for awhile, but I always hesitate because of how sensitive my skin is. Plus, my skin always purges when I try something new. And right now, my skin has been looking pretty decent (knock on wood) and I've been afraid to mess that up! But, I was feeling daring, so I asked the gentleman working there for a sample.
Herbalism is a kaolin clay based face and body wash. It contains ground almonds to gently exfoliate, and rose absolute and chamomile to sooth the skin. It gets it's bright green color from the chlorophyllin, which is extract from alfalfa plants and is rich in nutrients. Combine those ingredients with the rice bran and vinegar, and it's an oily stopping machine.
As soon as I opened the jar I was surprised by how bright the color is. It's very bold and vibrant, which I love since I know this doesn't contain any dyes, I know the color comes from the fresh and wholesome ingredients. After the color, the first thing I noticed right away is the smell. Keep in mind, it's called Herbalism, so you pretty much know what to expect as far as scent goes. The vinegar stands out, but the scent is also earthy and natural, as I expected. Personally, I don't find the smell that bad that I would never use it.
The instructions are simple: 1) Wet your face. 2) Break off a small piece of product and place it in the palm of your hand. 3) Mix with warm water to create a paste. 4) Massage into skin. 5) Rinse and pat dry. 6) Moisturize.
The first time I used it, as you can see above, I think I made mine too watery. I'm so bad with stuff like that; I either use too much product or too much water. Can you understand why I hate cooking? Lol. Anyway, I just added some more product to get the consistency to be more paste like. The smell evaporated pretty fast too, which was cool. I kept it on for about 2-3 minutes before I rinse it off with warm water.
My face didn't feel oily at all after I used Herbalism, which I enjoyed. Bonus: it didn't make me break out either! My face felt a little tight afterwards, so I used my Yes to Tomatoes moisturizer as I always use after I wash my face anyway.
Overall, I thought it was pretty good. I'm still pretty partial to my Yes to Tomatoes face cleanser that I will probably be sticking with. I plan on finishing the sample thought, because I do like it.
