Today, I'm going to show you all the goodies I got in my August VeganCuts Beauty Box! This month, you really got your bang for your buck. Three of the items in this box retail for a total of $62! Considering the box is only $19.95, talk about a steal! I have some mixed emotions about this box, and I'll explain why. First, here's the goodies!
First up, the One Love Organics Dry Shampoo Powder. This is one of the full size items that retails for $12. I am super excited to try this, as you guys know how much I love dry shampoo. One Love Organics is an awesome company as well, so I anticipate that I'm going to love it.
Next up is a decent sized sample of GlamNatural Hydrating Face Cream. GlamNatural is a company that uses 6 core natural ingredients in their products. This face cream has limited ingredients, all meant to hydrate your face. The full size of this retails for $28. Truth be told, I doubt I'm going to use it as my face doesn't really get dry. Perhaps in the winter if I get a few eczema patches, not just on my face but on the rest of my body too. I saw a few people say this made their face greasy, and I have enough of that on a regular day. This is probably going to be a dud for me. But we'll see!
Next up is the sample size Kaeng Raeng Lavender Vanilla Detoxfoliant Body Scrub. The full size is 10 oz and it retails for $36. This sample size is 1 oz, so I would say it has a retail value of about $3.60. The scent is amazing. This scrub contains both lavendar and vanilla essential oils, so the scent is legit. Also, it contains organic virgin shea butter so it's going to be ultra moisturizing as well. I used this in the shower the other day. I want to mention that be mindful that it's a salt scrub, which means, if you have any teeny tiny baby cuts that you know or don't know about, it's gonna sting like a mofo. My poor little hands have so many cuts from being dry, and it hurtttt! That made it kind of hard to do focus on how it worked, but I tried. My skin is a little dry from tanning, so I used it all over while in the shower. It was pretty moisturizing. It made my skin feel soft, and waterproof kind of, because of the oils the water just beaded and rolled off. So, I used my body wash after I used this. My skin still felt soft, and I noticed it felt improved after I got out of the shower. It is still a little dry and flaky, but it is better than what it was. Also, the scent was not at all lavender vanilla. It smelled herbally, and I didn't really smell either lavender or vanilla. But, scents are individual to each person, so you may smell something totally different. Personally, I wouldn't buy it. I prefer sugar scrubs to salt scrubs because they don't burn my cuts. But it did work pretty decently overall.
Next up, which I am the most excited for, is the Harvey Price Hello full size spray perfume. This 8.8 ml spray bottle retails for $26. This is the only product I have tried yet, and let me tell you, it's worth every single penny of that $26. It smells SO good. Harvey Prince describes the scent on their website as "the scent that greets you with a smile." This perfume blends citrus scents like lemon, grapefruit, and orange with floral scents like plumeria, and tahitian vanilla and musk and it blends so so good. I believe it's in an oil base because I got it in my fingers and it feels oily. I like that though because oily lasts longer than alcohol based perfumes. Remember when I said I had mixed emotions about this box. Here's one of the reasons why:
My perfume had leaked all over and what should be a full bottle is now only 1/4 full! Apparently, this was an issue for a lot of people because I saw a lot of people complain that they're perfume leaked too. Thankfully, VeganCuts has super awesome customer service and they emailed me back within 3 hours with a form to fill out so that Harvey Price can send me a replacement. So, I'm thankful for that, because I'm so obsessed with the scent! I plan on trying the other scents hopefully sooner than later.
And lastly, the biggest disappointment of all was the Gleam Lip Radiance by Melanie Mills. This lip gloss/stick retails for $24! There were 3 shades you could receive: Naked (nude), Pop My Cork (pink), and Uncontrollable (purple). However, I was so so sad to receive that Naked color! Nude colors are not colors I wear on my lips, and if I'm being honest, I barely wear color on my lips. So, I'm never going to use it, which is a total bummer for me because I had planned on wearing it to a fancy vegan restaraunt that I'm planning on going to for my birthday on Sept. 3rd. So, to say I'm bummed is an understatement because I was really really looking forward to that. I did ask VeganCuts if they did exchanges on the color, which I knew they couldn't but I figured it was worth a shot. The answer was obviously a no.
In addition to all of that, I was reading the label on the products, as I do all of the time. It's definitely a habit I've picked up since way back when I was a vegetarian. And I see this on the lip gloss label..
Naturally, I emailed them right away regarding that. In case you don't know what carmine is, it's made from crushed beetles. It's commonly found in red nail polishes and lipsticks because it's what gives the red color. Here is the email response I received back from them:
So, I was glad they put that at ease. Even still, had I received the purple color, I don't know if I would ever use it. I know it doesn't contain carmine, but what if? I'm kinda crazy with stuff like that.
Overall, I was impressed with the box for it's value and especially the perfume. I had been eyeing up Harvey Prince perfumes for awhile, and I have been following them on Instagram. The perfume alone made it worth it for me. I wasn't thrilled with the lip gloss, despite the color and the carmine allergy warning. Either way, I will always love VeganCuts and think that what they do is fabulous. They take the guess work out of what you can and can't use, and even when things like this carmine situation came up, they're prompt to explain it. It's up to you to use what you feel comfortable with. I look forward every month to receving my Beauty Box, and I don't plan on canceling any time soon!
Have you received your August Beauty Box? What are your thoughts? Are you as obsessed with the perfume as I am?
