Halloween is my favorite. It’s actually my favorite favorite. My most favorite of all my favorites. So, I had two costumes I’ve worn this year, maybe a 3rd because it’s still not Halloween yet, but I basically threw both of them together, so I just wanted to give you a quick tutorial on what I did for both.
First up, my girl Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
I applied my makeup as usual. Used a black eyeliner pencil to make my stitches. I’m VERY particular with her stitches because I’ve seen that movie more times than any one person should see a movie, so like, they needed to be perfect. You only get one pass, so make sure that hand is steady! Use a reference photo of that makes it easier, so you can get your stitches on the right side, the right way, and the right angles. I used KVD liquid lipstick in XO with some lip gloss on top for my lips to get those Sally red lips. I used KVD Alchemist highlighter palette but focused a lot on the Sapphire shade since that’s got a blue tint to it and Sally is blue, and I used that around the apples of my cheeks. My eyeshadow had to match my dress of course so I used the KVD Saint and Sinner eye shadow palette in shades: Rosary, Relic, and Vestment. Voila! Sally!
For my Halloween party, I was Sam’s sucker from the horror movie Trick ‘r Treat. One of my absolute favorite movies of all time, it’s tied with 3 other movies for my #1 movies, so that says something considering the amount of movies I watch.
This is another one I threw together because I had no clue what I was gonna be and I was just like, hmm, let’s try this. I had zero practice on this one, since it was literally last minute, so there’s definitely parts I would’ve done different, which I’ll mention.
Since Sam is one of my favorite characters ever, I have a lot of Sam merch. The dress, the sucker prop, and socks with the sucker on them. Outfit complete.
I applied my face makeup as usual, minus the highlighter. For my one eye, I made a triangle out of a black eyeliner pencil. Once I traced out the shape, I filled it in with said eyeliner. Now, where I messed up was the bite. I should’ve made it bigger, so it was misshapen. Use the same eyeliner to make your bite. You only need 3 bite marks, but since I went to small I added more. I was less than thrilled with it but that’s okay. Next, use your eyeliner to shape your mouth, but avoid your lips. Again, I messed this up some too, but it’s okay. Fill in your mouth after your shape it, all the way to your lips but not on them, with the eyeliner. I used KVD Studded Lipstick in Slayer, which is pure black, to fill in my lips. Then, I used a kabuki brush, and used Tooth and Nail Cosmetics Pumpkin King palette’s shade Pumpkin King orange shimmer and dusted it all over my face, but only inside the bite, not outside the bite. Then, I took a thin eyeshadow brush and used the KVD Saint and Sinner palette again, used the shade Devil, and outlined around my black to accentuate them and add some more orange to my face, to really sell the sucker part. Voila! Sam’s sucker!
Happy Halloween! 🎃
Today I wanted to review for you guys both NCLA as a company, their nail wraps, and two polishes.
Let me first state that I recently ordered She’s Dead to Me, a limited edition shade and bottle for Halloween, as well as their Jack o’ Lantern Nail Wraps, and Gloss It, their all in one base and top coat, meant to compliment their nail wraps.
First, when I received my order, I didn’t receive Gloss It. I sent an email immediately, and it took them a few days to get back to me, which left a bad taste in my mouth. They did send me a complimentary gift, with my Gloss It when they ended up sending it, which was a nail polish remover pen. I appreciate they made good on their error, however; I understand they’re a busy company but, a few days seems like a lot. Either way, they did make good on everything thus far.
Second, I went to use their nail wraps today, the Macabre ones I bought last year and am finally getting around to using them, and I was taking photos for you guys and showing you to choose a size and stuff. Then, I went to peel one off, following the instructions, well, as it turns out. I got a defect pack, because they weren’t perforated, so I couldn’t pull them off! The entire sticker sheet came off! I was like you’ve gotta be kidding me! I took a video, and sent it to NCLA Customer Service, and I have no idea what they’re gonna do about it. Like, I realize I bought them a year ago, but I literally just opened them today. That’s not my fault! Who knows when I’ll hear from them. But when they respond, I will update you.
So, instead, I set out to use the Jack o’ Lantern ones I just got. I was too flustered to take a photo of them, or the process of them, but I’ll show you some final results after we get into the fine details. Nail wraps are new to me. While I followed the instructions to the T, I still had issues. And I have some issues in general about the products themselves. Let’s break this down:
Now let’s talk about their limited edition Halloween color, She’s Dead to Me, with the adorable skull design on the front and pretty pink handle. Of course, I bought mine at full price and now it’s half off lol. Story of my life. The shade is a matte midnight purple shimmer. I hate matte nail polishes, so I added a glossy top coat on mine. The color is very pretty, nice and dark, the shimmer is subtle but you can see it if you look closely, and the formula applies well. I presently have it on my toes. Both my big toes have already chipped, which I’m less than thrilled about, but the others are looking still pretty good. I don’t know if I would call it a true purple, it reminds me of a more red purple. I probably wouldn’t buy it again, especially since it’s matte, but if they do another shade next year for Halloween in these adorable bottles that isn’t matte, I’ll buy that.
Basically I’m having a love/hate relationship with NCLA right now. I love that they’re vegan and cruelty free, I love that they have pretty shades, but I don’t love their nail wraps and I’m not over the moon about their customer service. My suggestion? Find a coupon, then make a purchase.
The Awestruck Autumn Vegan Cuts Quarterly Box was a pretty awesome box. I've used all but one thing, so I'm gonna review 90% of it, and the last one, once I use it, I'll post that separately. Here's what it came with:
Here's the prices and description of each item:
This box is valued at $125 and had a great mix of products, which was my big complaint for my last box.
First, let's talk about TMF. Pure Brow Pencil, in color Nina, which is Dark Brown.
I have black eyebrows, and truly, I've never once filled in my brows. I actually wanna get microblading, but until I can save up for it, I figured I'd give this a shot. When I first started using it, I had no clue what I was doing and wasn't sure how I felt. As I've used it more, I'm happier with it. I don't like change the shape of them with it, that's excessive. I just add a few strokes throughout to fill them in, and the Dark Brown is actually fine, especially from a distance. I think black would be too heavy and hard looking on my face. I'm a fan. This one gets a 👍🏼 from me.
Now let's talk about 100% Pure Cocoa Butter Semi Matte lipstick.
Let me first state that this is a small lipstick, and if this really retails for $29, I'm disappointed in 100% Pure. The shade I got was Currant. It's a bright pinkish red. I only had it on for a little bit while I was home farting around, but after I wiped it off, my lips were stained. That goes to show you the power of fruit pigments. No need for crushed beetles in my beauty products! The color is a little bright for me, but it really does melt into your lips, which is from that cocoa butter base. I wouldn't buy it on its own, but I'm glad I've got a different shade to add to my rotation.
Next, Rejuva Minerals Mega Lash Lengthening & Thickening Mascara
I was stoked to see a mascara in the box because I was due for a new one. But this mascara fell flat for me. It is water resistant, as it claims, and I need to use makeup remover to get it off. I actually hate water resistant mascaras anyway. But if you like water resistant mascaras, you'll love it. It doesn't flake, as it claims, or smudge. The brush stinks and I constantly get it on my eyelids. Lengthening and thickening is a lie, unless I use like 3-4 coats. One coat barely does a thing. I try to build it up but its rough. I'm using it because I have nothing else and I already paid for it, but would I purchase it again for $16? No I wouldn't.
I haven't used the contour palette yet, I just haven't had time for all of that, but I promise I'll do a separate post for it when I do!
Lastly, I did use the Pacifica Cherry Kisses Hydrating Lipstick Wipes. I'm gonna go off script here, and also include my review for KVD Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in XO. This shade is a deep pink/red. It builds to more of a red shade with a second coat. Just like the other shades, it's long lasting and it dries matte. I added some lip gloss to it and it added shine and made it more comfortable to wear it, without compromising the color. Just don't get your hair in it, because you'll get little streaks of color on your face. However, it was the perfect shade for my Sally costume!
I thought I looked adorable, I can't lie!
Anyway, come the end of the night, it was time to take it all off. I feel like the Pacifica wipes are too big to just remove lipstick. You need like half the size of a wipe. For $6, if they split the wipe in half, you would really get your money's worth. And they wouldn't be utilizing anymore product, they just have to literally cut them in half. I disagree. Anyway, because of the size, I used mine to wipe some of my stitches off too. They do smell like cherry, which is refreshing. But, as I removed the lipstick, my lips were still stained (which speaks volumes about KVDs staying power), and it was smudged. I can't see using them as a remove and reapply, but more like a remove and then wash your face.
I'm really excited for the contour palette, and I'm glad they include instructions because contouring is hard! Hopefully I can try it out this week so I can post about it!
Happy Autumn friends!
I need to write this post, as therapy for myself, and as a PSA to others. I have to get all of these thoughts and feelings out, because tonight, Kevin and I witnessed a traumatizing event, and I need to share it.
We were driving to a friend's house in New Jersey to attend The Witches Ball in Mount Holly. I was Sally, and I had my makeup all done and I was excited. Last year, we were supposed to go and I was sick, so I couldn't make it.
So Kevin is driving on the highway and some lady speeds up and gets super close to this guy driving a Jeep, basically cutting his off, and this guy in the Jeep throws his hands up like WTF, bangs into the wall, bumps one of those big orange pails, bounces off that and goes directly into a giant parked work truck and the concrete rail. Watching this whole thing happen, I can barely function. He didn't even break, or try to stop his car, so I don't know what happened, but he went full force into the truck and the concrete rail. I'm not sure of the circumstances that technically led to it, but it happened none the less.
Immediately, we stop, as does two other cars who were driving near us and witnessed it too. Kevin jumps out of the car, and I'm dialing 911 immediately. In times of panic, I panic. Kevin springs into action, God Bless his heart, but I think to call for help. I don't know where we are, and the 911 Dispatcher is getting frustrated but I'm trying my hardest, giving him the license plate number of the car, telling him to track my phone, but I don't drive the highway, so I don't know. I asked another woman, and she was able to tell me where we were. Meanwhile, I run over to the car, and Kevin and another gentleman are cutting up the airbags trying to get to the man. The Jeep is completely totaled. His feet are at the drivers side door, his body is parallel to the ground, and his head in on the passenger side floor. No one can see his face, but they're shouting and he's not moving or talking. He was shaking and grunting periodically. In my heart, I'm afraid I am witnessing the death of this man, and I'm losing it.
Kevin is in the car at this point, trying to move parts to get to him, another woman is trying to find a phone to call someone. I tell the Dispatcher we need a paramedic immediately, since the man isn't moving. I'm running back and forth to find an update on him, while looking for the police or anyone to help. The woman couldn't find the gentleman's phone, but she got his Blue Tooth, and hit redial, and it was his mother. I will never forget the sound of his mother's voice, the sheer terror and fear of hearing her son was in an accident, she's screaming and crying and, as I type this now, I cry again. I cannot imagine receiving that phone call. You're going about your day, and you get a phone call from a stranger than someone you love dearly has been in an accident. I pray for all of you and for myself that we may never get that phone call.
I'm a crying mess, at that time and now, as I watch and think about this event that unfolded before my eyes. It almost seemed surreal. There were so many people trying to get this gentleman out of the car, they had the jaws of life, paramedics, police, fire trucks, everything. It was a scene out of a movie, but it wasn't a movie. It was real life, and I don't know what became of the gentleman, since we had to move our cars out of the way so he could get the help he needed, and there was nowhere else for us to go except to go, but my heart breaks for him, and for his loved ones.
This man probably woke up this morning, regular Saturday, doing his thing, and he may never walk again, he may be brain dead, and he may even be dead. A mother may have to bury her son. All I know is that prayers are desperately needed for he and his family, regardless of the outcome. I don't care who or what you pray to, but pray, and pray as hard as you can. My stomach has been in knots all night. I can't get these images out of my mind, and I don't think I ever will. I've never seen anything like it, and I never want to again.
Please, tonight, tomorrow, and every day going forward, hug your loved ones and tell them you love them, stop rushing so damn much, and slow the fuck down. You will get there when you get there, your life and/or the life of someone else isn't worth it. I don't think I'll ever find out what happened to this man, but I want to know so badly. I want to know that he's going to be okay, and that there's no long term damage. I need to believe that. I need to send those good intentions into the world, and hope they'll find their way to him.
Every day we get here on this beautiful planet is a gift, even the shitty ones. Please remember that as you go about your business. You may hate your job, be in debt, and have all sorts of issues, but you're alive, and that's a blessing.
May God Bless you all. ❤️
Let's talk floss. This review should be pretty straight forward, considering, ya know, its floss. But hey, not all flosses are created equal! Typically, I use a different brand, which I'm pretty sure I bought at Whole Foods, but for the life of me can't remember the brand. I got this one with my Sephora gift card, and was surprised it was vegan. I haven't found many vegan floss options to be honest, and I enjoy flossing. I like a nice clean mouth, so I figured I would give it a try!
They had other flavors, like fruity ones, but I personally don't feel like a fruity flavored dental floss is going to make my mouth feel clean and refreshed, so I went with good old fashioned mint. I can understand the fruit flavor for kids though, so that would make sense.
The packaging is cute. The bright color floss makes it pop. I like how on the back it gives you measurements of how long you have left and when it's time to get a new one, that's pretty cool. The floss works well too. My other floss, as I would pull it out from the packaging, all the wax would pull off too, and I was left with slightly waxy string and it always fell apart mid floss. I haven't had any problems with this one. It's strong and sturdy and holds up while I floss. It's $8, which is kinda pricy for floss but when vegan floss options are limited, you gotta do what you gotta do. It's available on Sephora's website or the Cocofloss website, but on the website it's free shipping if you buy it from them!
I wanted to talk to blog today about my new Danielle Nicole Beast backpack! As soon as this email popped up..
I was like.. yup, don't mind if I do! It was birthday Month after all, and I am obsessed with Beauty and the Beast, and I bought her Beast Clutch a few months ago off Amazon, and it just felt like fate was giving me all these signs. Who am I to say no?!
Here's some details before we go into pictures and reviews:
Now for the fun part, photos and reviews!
Like is this the cutest thing you've ever seen or is it the cutest thing you've ever seen? Those eyebrows crack me up, the expression of Beast's face is really captured on this bag. I find the eyebrow faux fur to be too pinky and also kind of choppy, but it's a minor detail that only a freak like me would point out. The eyebrow fur on the Beast clutch (which you can see in my pictures above) is more neatly put together and is definitely the right shade. Minor, but I couldn't help but notice it. His blue eyes are highlighted, which as we know, those baby blues are what Belle looks into that makes her realize that the Prince really is the same Beast after he transforms when the curse is broken. I love the little fur on his chin, just like the clutch. It's just adorable. The overall physical appearance of it, I love. Plus, it's brown and perfect for fall! I don't follow those fashion rules but if you do, there you go!
It's a backpack, which had become my new "thing." I'm all about backpacks as my every day bag. I use small sling bags when I'm off and running errands and stuff, but for work and what not, backpack all day. It frees up arm space, distributes weight evenly onto both shoulders so that one strap isn't just digging into one shoulder or arm while you wear it. It's hands free so you can just rock it while shopping if you want, with plenty of hand and arm space to carry whatever goodies you buy. The straps are adjustable, which is great for people of all sizes.
I love that it zips. That's the one thing I wish my Tinkerbell bag had, I hated it being so open. However, my one real big complaint is the main zipper. It's a pain in the neck, because the zipper is all the way at the bottom of one side of the bag, and there's this lip that covers the zipper, and you have to constantly move it out of the way as you unzip it. The lip I guess hides the zipper, but I don't particularly care if my zipper is hidden or not. Plus, you've got the horns you gotta avoid once you get to the top too, making it even more of a pain. Why in the world they didn't put dual zippers in the middle at the top is beyond me. That way, you can open one side, or both, gaining access to whatever side you need. My bag is obviously organized, so I have things in certain spots. And to go through the hassle of unzipping the whole bag is so annoying. I would say it's a minor issue, but I mean, it's really not, considering that's how you get into said bag. I do appreciate the zipper underneath his nose, because that's easy and that's a good spot to store thin items, and it's a decent size. I wouldn't put anything too thick in there though, it'll bulge out and look weird.
As I stated, it's a great size and there's a small pocket at the top inside that's good for organization. I wish there were more pockets. I ALWAYS want more pockets, in life in general. In my leggings, in my work pants, in dresses. GIRLS NEED POCKETS TOO!
BONUS: Look how cute my Beast clutch is inside it! It looks like they came together, and it fits perfect. People often ask me if they came together too, and personally, I think doing a combined set for a lower price would be a big seller. *Hint hint!* I store my tampons, medicines, first aid supplies, etc.. in it, and it fits what I need perfectly with an easy to open magnetic button.
Danielle Nicole makes the most adorable grown up Disney bags, and she just released a Rugrats collection, which is pure nostalgia of my childhood years, and my husband even got me a Reptar clutch from it for my birthday. I love her stuff, absolutely love it. Which is why is saddens me to say that she's introducing a leather collection of bags. One of the things I loved most about her bags was that I could shop worry free, and while the leather collection is appropriately named and labeled "Leather Collection" so there's no way of accidentally buying one, it makes me sad. But, you don't just not shop at Target just because the whole store isn't vegan right? Same goes for Sephora, they sell lots of vegan stuff, but most of their stuff isn't vegan. It's the same concept. At the same time, I like giving my hard earned money to companies that are totally vegan friendly. So, it's a hard call, and it's one you and I will have to make on our own, but I wanted to present the knowledge to you so you can make your own informed decisions.
In any case, at the end of the day, funky zipper and all, I'm obsessed with my bag, and I don't regret buying it one bit. $78 well spent! 👍🏼
... AND IT IS AWESOME! Anytime I can combine my love of Halloween, horror, animals, and making a purchase where my money helps animals, I'm in there like swimwear. So let's take at ATA Halloween collection. You've been warned, they are BOO-tiful!
Now, all the photos are from their website, but don't you worry, I have an ordered placed for my two favorite ones (one of which being the one above!), and I'll be happy to post those when I get them. This is their women's oversized fit tee, and I'm about that fit. I ordered it in Heather Red, but the have a variety of colors. My first instinct was black, then gray, and I said, go for some color Ash, and I chose red. I like things to color coordinate lol. Pandas are one of my absolute FAVORITE animals, and I love that the panda is Billy from the Saw movies. Like come on, TAKE MY MONEY! These shirts are $24.99, but they have other styles, for men and women, so you can choose which one suits you best!
Cattibal Lecfur, HOW CUTE IS THIS?! This is another new style they came out with this year, and I can't get over how cute it is. You can find this one on a variety of styles too, so you're guaranteed to find one that's your cup of tea.
I'm going to post some photos of ones they had last year too down below, because they're still just as cute!
Frenchiestein! If we're being correct, it should be Frenchiestein's Monster, but that's neither here nor there, because it's still friggin adorable!
Catula! Another classic design from last year. I think their theme from last year was Universal Monsters, which is one of my favorite favorites.
This is actually a new design for this year, Pussessed. I love it! The red eyes, claws out, evil writing... it's just adorable. And it's a bit darker than some of their other designs, so if that's your thing, you'll love this.
They do have a few others, but there's one in particular I have to highlight, because I love it so much. Here it is:
KI-IT-TY! I hate clowns mind you, one of my biggest fears, but this design is everything. It's the classic version of Pennywise, although we saw the remake in theaters and it was terrifying and awesome. ATA is actually hosting a giveaway on their page for this shirt too! Three lucky people will win this awesome shirt! So, make sure you're following them and you enter! I bought it, since I figured I wouldn't be one of the winners anyway lol. I didn't buy it in white though, I got a light gray. I thought that would make the image pop more. Plus, I really prefer gray over white anyway. This particular design is currently on sale for all styles too!
It's time to get to shopping my friends. ATA has stuff for men and women alike. They're a non-profit organization, and every purchase goes to helping animals. Why not show your spooky side and help animals at the same time? WIN WIN!
