Isn't it just the most wonderful time of the year? With fall comes beautiful weather, bonfires, football season, pumpkin everything, and of course, HALLOWEEN! 🎃 Let's put this out there right now, Halloween is LIFE. I am the Queen of Halloween. Every day is Halloween for me. You'll find me repping Halloween in October and in March, and every other month of the year. But nothing compares to this time of year, because of its abundancy! It's wonderful!
One of my recent spooky purchases is from Lush, and it's called Goth Fairy, and it's a body melt. Goth Fairy is kind of how I see myself. I will forever have goth in my heart, but I'm also a girly girl. So I just had to try it! Here's the deets:
-Ingredients, from the Lush website:
"Illipe Butter (Shorea stenoptera) Cupuaçu Butter (Theobroma grandiflorum) Calcium Sodium Borosilicate Fragrance Synthetic Fluorphlogopite Titanium Dioxide Candelilla Wax (Euphorbia cerifera) Bergamot Oil (Citrus Aurantium bergamia) Grapefruit Oil (Citrus paradisi) Almond Essential Oil (Prunus amygdalus amara) Tin Oxide (Tin oxide) Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone *Citral *Limonene *Linalool Ultramarines Manganese Violet *Occurs naturally in essential oils"
-The ingredients that stand out are the Illipie Butter, moisturizing and conditioning, this butter is derived from the nuts of the Shorea plant, found in Malaysia. The nuts are collected from the forest floor, dried, shelled and pressed, turning it into the butter used in this product. Also, the Cupuacu Butter, derived from the fruit of the tree of the same name in the Amazon rainforest. It's made by cold pressing the fruit, and is a beneficial alternative to lanolin, which is derived from sheep's wool. This butter is so rich that sometimes it's even used to make white chocolate!
-The bergamot and grapefruit oils add a wonderful sent to your skin when you use it. It's fruity but not overbearing. I just wish it would last longer.
-They are $7.95 each.
Today, I exfoliated and shaved, and thought today was the perfect day to try this out. I got the tin from Lush for $3.95 but I recommend it, because it protects it from the elements, and doesn't stick to the tin. It's definitely worth the couple extra bucks, plus it's reusable. I rubbed it directly onto my skin, which allowed for it to melt but not overly melt. It melts much faster on my hands when you rub it in than directly onto your skin. You only need a few swipes, like 8, and you'll get enough shimmer. It does make your skin soft, but if you used enough to replace your daily lotion, you would blind people with your shimmer. At that rate, this will last forever! I almost want to like melt it and add some to my pocket lotion so I can have shimmery hands whenever I want them!
I love shimmer. Maybe it's the fact that I grew up in the 90s and everything glittered and glistened back then, but I will always just love to shimmer. But I'm not trying to over shimmer. I used just enough, and the shimmer made me feel like Tinkerbell. I felt fancy, I smelled good, and my skin was soft. I used my regular lotion afterwards, and the shimmer was still there. You gotta make sure you spread it on evenly, so you glisten evenly. And remember, shimmer makes light diffuse on your skin, giving it a more even appearance!
Boy do I need a tan or what?! Lol,
Shimmers away my friends, shimmer away!
OCC (Obsessive Conpulsive Cosmetics) has some wonderful nail polish. They have super unique colors, and I'm a huge fan of them. They're probably my favorite nail polish brand. They have other cosmetics, but I've never used them. I have an eyeliner, but I'm trying to finish my other eyeliner first. I always have backups for makeup, and usually a secondary backup too, just in case! I'm a Virgo, so I'm forever prepared!
Today I wanted to swatch two shades by OCC that are perfect for fall, and perfect for anyone really. Black Dahlia and Black Metal Dahlia. Let's talk about Black Dahlia first.
Clearly I have to clean them up some, but this is Black Dahlia. This is an opaque blackest blackened red, as is described on the website. Truth be told, it's a little more red than I wanted. I'd prefer it more black, but that's just me. You can tell as soon as you look at it that it's a shade of red. FYI totally unrelated, I messed my nails up like 4 different times doing them lol. Patience is a virtue my friends, and it's one I don't have.
I love how dark this is, and it is nice that it's not just black. Everyone tells me I need to add more color in my life, so BOOM, color added. It's a very vampy color, and it reminds me of blood. For me personally, that's a win. I love this color, even if it's not as blackened as I anticipated it would be. This is using two coats of polish.
Let's talk Black Metal Dahlia now.
This color is deep-maroon with red pearl. Again, lighter than I anticipated, but I like it! It's a pretty color. Everything looks darker on their website than in real life. It's still a really pretty color for fall. It's got some shimmer, which makes you feel a little fancy. *pinky toe up!* I wanted to show you the difference between the two shades.
These are two very different, yet very complimentary shades. All their polishes are $10, but make sure your signed up for their emails and follow them on Instagram because they do sales a lot and that's when you should stock up! I wanna check out their Lip Tar too, since I decided to make this my Year of Lip Stick. Every product OCC makes is vegan and cruelty free, so you can shop without worry!
Happy Fall, my friends! 🍂🍁 Here's to the best season of the year!
My husband and I finally made our way over to Love Again Vegan, a sandwich (and more!) shop located in West Chester, PA which is only about 25 minutes from us. It's such a cute little area too, it reminds me of South Street but cleaner, and Media but less cluttered. There's cute little shops too that we we're admiring as we we're walking around after our late lunch/early dinner. Now onto the place itself...
This place is so cute! I loved the Pennsylvania state art that had the little arrow pointing to where their sandwich shop was. I wish I had taken a close up picture, next time we go I will!
The menu is 100% vegan. They has sandwiches, and build your own sandwiches, salads, cookies for dessert, bags of chips, fountain sodas, and more. I love that they allow for the option to build your own sandwich, because I don't eat faux meats, so I can make one with cheese and some veggies and what not. I ordered myself a grilled cheese on a panini which consisted of: cheddar, herbed feta, tomato, and mayo. I also ordered a side of avocado, which was extra but I didn't care, because avocado completes a meal in my eyes. Kevin got himself a chicken salad sandwich with tomato on a roll. We both got ourselves a fountain soda, I got myself root beer and he got himself Mexicane Cola, which has quickly become one of his favorite sodas. It tastes just like Pepsi.
I wish I had taken more photos, but we we're so hungry at that point that food was our main focus. Our sandwiches were AMAZING! I wasn't sure about the herbed feta on my grilled cheese, but it added just enough of a kick. The rolls were so fresh! Like it seemed like they were just baked. Let me tell you the best part, Kevin, one of the biggest carnivores I know, said that his chicken salad sandwich was, and I quote, "one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. This sandwich is f-in delicious." If my meat eating husband can say that, I will guarantee that you can bring any of the meat eating people in your life here and they'll love it. We're both so excited to go back! I'm off today, and I'm half tempted to go back and grab myself lunch lol. But shh, don't tell Kevin!
If you're in or around the West Chester area, you need to check out this place. You won't be disappointed! Check it out!
Just like Ulta, Sephora gives you a free birthday gift with your purchase during the month of your birthday. Seldom I can use them, since most of the time they're not vegan, and I give them as gifts to friends and/or family I know will like them and can use them. But this year, Sephora offered a mini Tarte set that was actually vegan, and I figured I would give it a shot.
This is gonna be a quick review because honestly, there's no much to say. I'm not a huge Tarte fan anyway, and since it was free, I figured if I tried it and didn't like it, no harm no foul. I'll start with the blush in exclusive shade "Paaarty."
I tried to get a photo of the blush on my cheeks, but it's so pale that it doesn't even show up. Unless your Casper, or your skin is a shade similar to his, you won't see this color show up on your skin. I also imagine if you have very dark skin, like a deep shade of chocolate, it would show up, but I don't think it would be flattering. Sure, the blush itself goes on nicely, it's smooth and applies well, but what good does all of that do if you can't tell I'm wearing any blush? I'm actually almost out of my Too Faced blush, and the same shade that they offer (it's like the only vegan one of the group) has totally changed and I don't think I'm gonna like it. So, I'm hoping for a blush in the next VeganCuts Quarterly box, if not, I'll be on a mission to find a matte, pressed vegan blush that's not too pink and is good to neutral undertones. I digress... So for me, the blush was lackluster. I just wish it was darker. Usually, these kits have a shade that works for medium skin, since that's apparently the most common shade, but this one missed the mark, sad to say. I'm still using it, under my Too Faced blush, just so I don't waste it.
Now, let's talk about the lip paint in "Birthday Suit."
It's a bit blurry, but the color is very nude and natural. Too nude for my liking. I also felt like it was more streaky than I anticipated it would be. It's comparative to KVD's Everlasting Liquis Lipsticks, but I don't like the wear nearly as much as hers. It's got a mint/menthol to it, so your lips tingle a little when you apply it. That's nice I guess. I suppose it's to add some breath freshening to it. I would never wear the color alone, it's entirely too light for my skin tone. But, doing an ombré look with a darker color, I could definitely use it with that.
Overall, both shades weren't really winners for me, but they're minis and it was free so, I'm not really that upset about it. I got another free KVD liner with my order though using my Sephora points, so there's that!
If you get this set as your birthday gift from Sephora too, I hope you enjoy it more than I do!
Remember I said before that I love Kat Von D and basically everything she does? I still do. I got a gift card to Sephora for my birthday, and treated myself to a few things (as you see below, and don't worry, all will get reviewed!), one of which is Kat Von D's new mini Everlasting Liquid Lipstick set in "Smoke and Mirrors." The set contains two gray colors, "Woolf" which is a deep stone gray, and "Dagger" which is a cool dusty periwinkle gray.
You would think that these colors wouldn't be flattering on a lot of people, but honestly they're universally flattering. I love the darker gray the best, but adding the lighter gray does an ombre look, just like her other lip duo I bought. But what I love the most about it, is that I actually felt comfortable wearing such a bold lip! The light gray tones it down some so that it's not like in your face bold.
I will always have my inner goth girl inside me, and these colors bring that out, but not to the point where I feel like super goth. I've dubbed it "softcore goth." I was wearing a Beauty and the Beast shirt too, so that tamed it down some. Also, like 50% if not more, of my wardrobe is gray. The other half is black. BONUS! It will always match. Black and gray go together like PB & J, that rhymes, but it's also true.
This was $20, and worth it! Also, remember I complained before about that matteness of it? I mean, it's a matte lipstick, I knew what I was getting myself into. Applying lip balm on top works, but then your balm gets all miscolored, and I don't like that. So, I've been using a glitter lip gloss, just a smidge, on top to add a little shine and a pop of glitter, and it stays longer than the balm does that way too. The only problem is, it makes it bleed a little, not like that awkward old lady bleed where it's all over your lips, but like if your hair gets caught in it, and the winds blowing and it hits your face, you'll get little hair shaped lip color lines on your face. Minor inconvenience, especially because I like how the color looks better. The shininess from the gloss really makes your lips pop, and that bold lip becomes even bolder!
2 big gray thumbs up from me! 👍🏼👍🏼
I. Love. Pins. I'm a pin collector, and I collect all different kind of pins. I have six pin boards I made on my wall, and they're all organized. I have: a Tim Burton pin board, a Michael Myers and Sam pin board (my two favorite horror characters), a general horror pin board, a Halloween themed pin board, a Disney pin board, and a miscellaneous pin board. Here, let me show you my loves..
I love all the pins, but I wanted to highlight a few I think you'll enjoy. First up is from Bekyoot.
Bekyoot is like so super kawaii. Her cat characters are based off of her real life cats, and the other characters she creates are fun and whimsical. Bekyoot just makes me happy. Sadly, the artist behind these adorable characters, recently lost her rescue cat. So, a portion of sales from her Rescue Cat Love pin is going to Houston pet rescues BARC and Stretch for Strays. And, unless you've been living under a rock, Houston rescues need all the help they can get after Hurricane Harvey. She's also got two other adorable pins you should get anyway too, that are Momocheet (one of her cat characters) and the trio would add some flair to your jacket, bag, pin board, or wherever you put them! Here's the link:
Next up, is a pin from Crescent Creeper Shop on Etsy.
In addition to the Beetlejuice pins, is a cute farm animal pin, Pin 4 Friends. ALL proceeds go here..
Anytime I can buy cute pin and help animals, I'm sold. Here's the link for this pin:
Get to pin shopping friends!
Two things I wanted to review with you guys today: Kat Von D's Tattoo Liner (in Trooper) and Too Faced Passport to Bronze set. Let's first talk about KVD's eyeliner. Here's some photos but keep in mind, this eyeliner has been on since 7am this morning, nearly 13 hours and still going strong.
Not bad for almost 13 hours eh? This eyeliner goes on so smooth. The first pass is kind of light, so you do need a second pass to achieve a more blackened look. Sometimes a third pass if I'm feeling kind of edgy.
It goes on and it stays on. It doesn't flake and it doesn't budge until I remove it. It's got like a felt tip point, which makes application super easy. I feel like brush on liquid eyeliners are more difficult to apply. This is like a marker.
The best part? It hasn't irritated or bothered my super sensitive eyes once! Yay! Mines a sample size I got with my lipstick when I ordered it, but once it runs out, I'll be buying the full sized version, which is $20.
Next up, Too Faced Passport to Bronze.
Too Faced has been the only bronzer I've used for quite some time. I'm super picky with bronzers. Some are too orangey, or glittery, or they look like dirt. Too Faced has always been matte, natural looking, and beautiful. This was only $10 on sale when they were having their big clearance sale, and while I didn't need it at that particular time, I wear bronzer every day, so it's worth it to me, especially for $10. You get 3 deluxe sized bronzers plus a mini kabuki brush. You get: Sun Bunny (their natural bronzer, it's two toned), Milk Chocolate Soleil, and Medium/Deep Chocolate Soleil.
I use the darker one to contour, the natural on my cheeks, and the lighter one by my hairline and near my temples. So really, there's a shade for everyone. And you're face always come out looking naturally bronzed. It was a steal for $10, I'm only sad I didn't buy another!
Two big thumbs up for both products from this girl! 👍🏼👍🏼
And the Hashimoto's saga continues. Sometimes (a lot of times) my life feels like a soap opera. I recently got my blood work again, so I just wanted to give you guys a quick update on what's going on.
First, might I add, this recent blood work experience I had was not a good one. I felt bad for the woman because she was the only phlebotomist on staff, and she was the only person working period. People were complaining, the whole waiting room was filled. My appointment was at 9:30am and I didn't get done until 10:15am. Poor staffing on their part. However, she was also kind of rude, and not very good at drawling blood.
Mind you, I do not do blood work well in general. Or IVs. Anything that has to stick in my vein or body for any extended period of time grosses me out. Tattoos? No problem, I have 7. Regular needles? Don't love them, but I can deal. Anything else? I'll pass.
So, I'm sitting in the room waiting while she finishes with the gentlemen in the room next to me. Literally, she cannot get his blood. She tried both arms, several times, and had to resort to his hand. He was confused because he gets blood work several times a year and has never had one issue. How do I know all of this? Because I heard the entire conversation. My nerves are through the roof at this point. I'm like, this lady gets one chance and if she goes near my hand I'm leaving.
So she comes in and she's like "how are you?" And I'm like "Nervous!" And I give her my left arm, my usual blood work arm, that's got two pretty good veins. I chugged two bottles of water before going in. I was prepared. She goes for my left arm and she's like "Yeah I'm not getting anything. Your veins are really small." I'm sorry, do my small veins not pump blood throughout my body like everyone else's veins? What's your point lady? So, she goes to my right arm, same thing. And I told her I've never had an issue before and I get blood work frequently enough because of my thyroid. And, with an attitude is like "Well what do you want me to do? Do I do this or not?" Taken back, I'm like "If you can get it in one shot sure, more than that and I'm out." I know she's having a bad day, I understand, but I didn't make the poor schedule that day!
She found a vein, had to like wiggle it to get the blood flowing, and to get one tube took twice as long as usual. And it hurt worse too. And she just slaps a cotton pad and some medical tape on there, which was half falling off and that was it. I was very disappointed by the whole thing.
Now that I've adequately complained about my experience, back to the task at hand: Hashimoto's update. Here's my results from my July 7th blood work:
Now, here's my results from my Sept 5th blood work:
Barely a difference. I know they said figuring out the dosage can take time, but I'm frustrated. I take my medicine every morning, as directed, with a glass of water. I don't eat anything for at least an hour afterward, I take my remaining medicine an hour after as well. And I wait until lunch time before I take my vitamin so I don't have any issues with the calcium blocking the Levothyroxine absorption.
At least I do have symptom relief, for the most part, but I'm not completely symptom free. I mean, there's only 300 possible symptoms of Hashimoto's so ya know, I don't expect to be symptom free regardless.
Now, my doctor wants me to take 1 pill 6 days a week, and 2 pills 1 day a week. Hopefully that one extra pill a week will make the change. I go back in December for more blood work.
With the weather finally becoming beautiful again, it's also that time of year for cold and flu season. Here's your PSA: wash your hands and wrists frequently with soap and warm water (I use hot because of my OCD), while singing the Happy Birthday song, dry with a paper towel, and avoid touching as much as you possibly can. If I could lock myself in a bubble, I would. Use my handy dandy hand sanitizer and lotion mix trick (I've done a blog post on it before!), so you kill the germs but also keep your hands soft and prevent them from cracking. (Mine still will, with the eczema and all.) Lastly, if you have an autoimmune disorder like I do, your immune system sucks worse than the average person, so be extra diligent in your personal hygiene. October and December are my big sick months, and I'm gonna do my best to limit that as much as possible. And you should too! PSA OVER.
As you guys may or may not know, I went back to school in July. So, my posting has been limited, but I finished all of my school work (almost 3 weeks early, might I add!), so I'm trying to catch up on some posts! This post has a little of this and a little of that, as the name suggests. Let's begin!
This off the shoulder shirt from Arm the Animals feels like it was basically made for me. The only thing I would change is adding an S at the end of Cat, since I've got 4 cats. As I type this, I have Leopold sleeping on my lap, and all feels right in the world. My cats are my children, and I miss them as I would if I had kids. I'm at work and I'm like "I miss my cats. I wonder what they're destroying today." Lol. It's soft and lightweight, perfect for the slightly chilly September days ahead. It's off the shoulder too, so it's got some flare and it isn't just a basic long sleeve shirt. It was on sale when I got it too. They often do sales, so it's best to sign up for their emails and follow them on IG so you don't miss any good ones!
These ADORABLE Iron First Deer flats literally couldn't be any cuter if they tried. They're cruelty free and 100% vegan, from Iron Fist. Look at those big doe eyes (pun intended!), and her cute black bow! I love deers, they're one of my favorite animals. They only had these flats in a size 7, which is a little big for me, but they we're on sale and I didn't care, I had to have them. I'm happy I did. They look cute with jeans, and I can wear socks with them too when I do, so that makes them fit better. I just couldn't love them anymore if I tried. Except maybe if they were like a half a size smaller.
In that same Iron First order I got...
This CareBears pullover was also on sale, and also 100% vegan! It is SO soft. I bought a medium because I prefer my pullovers to be bigger, and I like being able to tuck my hands into my sleeves since I get cold easily. I can't get over how cute the design is. I grew up with these classic CareBears as a kid, and I just pretend the ice cream scoops are vegan lol. Iron Fist always has sales, and today is Labor Day, so I bet there's some good ones going on. They have a variety of items, from goth to kawaii, and everything in between. Check them out, if you haven't already!
Lip balm junkies, you're gonna want to check this one out...
As a lip balm connoisseur, I consider myself an expert in all things vegan lip balm. love the limited ingredients in this balm. All it contains is: Coconut Oil, Candelilla Wax, Cocoa Butter, and Coconut Fruit Extract. Only 4 Fair Trade ingredients. With sensitive skin, I have to be careful with what I'm using. and this stuff has been great. It keeps my lips moisturized, it's long lasting, and it's gentle. I got it at Whole Foods for like $4 or $5, which isn't cheap, but I think it's worth it!
I bought the Too Faced x KVD Lip and Cheek Set, even though the Too Faced products weren't vegan. I was able to sell those, and keep the adorable bag (which was really all I wanted anyway lol), and the two KVD products which I called and confirmed were vegan. The other side of the bag is pink and sparkly, with the Too Faced dog on it, but the KVD side is my favorite. I had a coupon too, so originally it costs $38 but I got it for cheaper than that!
I already know that I will love the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, even though I haven't tried it yet, but I did use the Studded Kiss Lipstick in Muse. Here's what it looks like:
I think this color is universally flattering, no matter your undertone, and I think depending on your undertone, it will look different, which is pretty cool! It's like a unique shade, kind of like a caramel color with a reddish tint? It's hard to describe. I do feel like it left my lips feeling dry, whereas the liquid lipstick, despite being matte, doesn't as much. But, I do think it has pretty impressive staying power. I used lip balm a few times, and it still looked like it was on my lips. Once I try the liquid lipstick, I'll post some swatches. Maybe I'll wear it tomorrow!
So that's all I've got for you guys right now. I'm going to try and post as much as I can before school starts back up on September 20th. I have Math, so A) I want to cry and B) I'll probably be utilizing the Math tutors all the time since Math is not my strong suit, but I promise I'll post as much as I can! I have lots to review, and my next quarterly VeganCuts Beauty Box should be coming for Fall near the end of September! I'm super excited for that!
I hope you're all enjoying your Labor Day!
