I know you know by now, I love love love Kat Von D. I loved her since her Miami Ink then LA Ink Days, and I love her more now that she's a vegan and she's gradually working on her cosmetics to make them all vegan!
Because my birthday is like a month or so long celebrating, I bought myself an early birthday present. I ordered this back in mid August, but my birthday just passed yesterday, September 3rd! I'm 29, but I'll fight for 25 tooth and nail lol.
I love the pretty black packaging, it's right up my alley lol. First, I got a free mini Tattoo Liner with my purchase. I'm excited to try it, I haven't yet, but I'll review it when I do!
First, I got this:
You guys already know this perfume is my jam. I decided to splurge on the medium size, and I just love the design of the bottle. It's so friggin pretty. I'll probably never throw the bottle away even after when it's empty lol. I do wish, considering the price, that the design on the bottle we're made from something other than plastic, it takes a beautiful design and makes it look a little cheap, but that's not really a deal breaker since clearly, it doesn't change how wonderful the perfume smells! It was $65 for 1.7 fl oz which is about average for the type of perfume in that higher end range. I love it!
Lastly, I bought this:
've mentioned before that I'm not really a lipstick girl. But, I've been trying some new things and some new looks, and I figured $19 for two half sizes of lipstick isn't bad. Furthermore, the one color is the one I was look at full sized, which is $20 for one. The colors are Melancholia, which is a rose blush, and Susperia, which is an purple shade. It's like a deep raspberry with a hint of purple. These shades were matched to so you you can do this pretty ombré type of look. I can't say I've tried that but I have tried the lipsticks. And I'm ready to review them!
Here's each shade individually:
I would never wear Melancholia (left) alone, way too light, but Susperia (right) I've been wearing alone often. And if you want get like a lighter shade, you just mix them. Take a little bit of Susperia, apply that first and let it dry for about a minute, then apply little by little of Melancholia, mush your lips together, and voila! These lipsticks dry pretty fast, so it's a quick process. You can do the ombré look this way too. Here's my ombre look I created, which is darker than the one on the box, because I prefer it darker than lighter.
These lipsticks are matte, not my favorite but they're not drying. I do apply lip balm, a little, and that does the trick. The staying power is pretty impressive too. I now want them in all the colors. I want black and orange for Halloween, since I'm gonna be the Pumpkin Queen! I would love to do an ombré look with those colors!
I've taken a few different photos of me wearing them, and I gotta say, I really love how bold the colors are, and how they make me feel. I always heard a bold lip increases your confidence, and I can honestly say I agree with that now!
I love these small sizes, they're perfect for your bag, since they're minis. This combo pack was only like $20. What a deal!
My vote: 👍🏼 Get yourself some!
Today I wanna review Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I've seen lots and lots of good reviews on this mascara, so I had always wanted to try it. Also, my one mascara broke and my backup mascara dried out, and I had a wedding the next day, so off to Ulta I went to buy some mascara, and I figured, hey, let's try that Too Faced Mascara!
This mascara makes lots of claims.
I don't know how they come up with these numbers, like 1944% more volume? Who comes up with these figures? While I have doubts about these numbers, I figured I would give it a shot.
First, I was oddly surprised by how heavy the handle of the tube is. Not the mascara tube part, but the handle you hold it. It caught me off guard. That's not a pro or con, it's just odd. Like why is it so heavy?
Second, the black of this mascara is the blackest black, which I love. I like my mascara and my clothes as black as I can. Like whatever dude is blacker than black, I want that.
Third, I find the formula to be slightly drying. I've seen a few reviews saying it's too wet, but I don't feel like that's the case for me. It's not like so dry its unmanageable, but it's kind of dry. It's a pretty good formula over all. I rarely have flaking, and I never have raccoon eyes by the end of the day.
Fourth, the brush is like a "bombshell" shaped brush; thick at the top and bottom and skinny in the middle. It's not my favorite. I prefer thin brushes, because I have two sets of lashes and I want each little lash coated. Big plush brushes usually tend to make a mess of my eyelids and under my eyelids. Surprisingly, I haven't had many issues with this brush, but I have had some.
Fifth, it is an easily buildable formula. It's easy to apply 2-3 coats if you need to. One is good enough for me, but when I feel daring, I go for 2-3 and it's like BOOM lashes. This is just one coat:
Overall, despite its drawbacks, I do like this mascara. Do I like it $23 worth? Probably not. I'm gonna try the Pacifica one again, it's cheaper and I'm hoping that a lot of my skin issues were caused by my thyroid, and using it this time won't make my eyes have an eczema flare up again. Either way, I'm glad I tried it. It's got a fun cheeky name and it's glamorous packaging, but it didn't live up to all the hype I thought it should've lived up too. I'm not disappointed or anything. But my suggestion? Wait until you get a coupon to try it.
Remember how I said that I'm basically like a Thyroid Ambassador now ever since I've been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease? I'm back at it again. I've been on my Levothyroxine since the end of May, and I go back for my blood work again in September. My TSH levels are still high, but when I got it checked in July it was almost half down from what it was when I went in May. So, the medication is working, even if my levels aren't exactly where they should be yet.
Having a thyroid problem is like having an invisible disease that essentially makes you look fine, except for a few issues that may be noticeable but could also be caused by any number of other things (we'll discuss a few of them today), so most people think you're fine. Kind of like how people with Fibromyalgia suffer daily, and most people don't know it because they can't see it. What people don't realize is, it's pretty friggin exhausting having your body fight you on a constant daily basis. Hashimoto's is your immune system fighting your thyroid, like when your body fights off a cold, you know how tired you get when that happens? Just imagine that like every waking second of your life.
Like I said, today I wanted to talk to you about three things that can be associated with your thyroid but could be caused by any number of other things: 1) acne, 2) dry skin, and 3) dry and excessive hair fall out.
Your thyroid controls, essentially, everything. But especially your hormones. That's why you have to take a synthetic hormone every day for the rest of your life when you have Hashimoto's Disease. What one of the causes of acne? Hormones.
Ever since being on my medicine, my acne has cleared up drastically. I still get the occasional pimple here and there (especially during one super fun time a month), which I, of course, pick at and drastically make worse, but even now, in the thick of summer, my acne is pretty under control. I think it has a lot to do with my hormones getting back in balance. By the way, I still stand by Paula's Choice being the other part. Her acne collection has been my best friend pretty much since the day I used it.
As you guys know, I've struggled with eczema and dry skin basically forever. I've got overly sensitive skin. Remember all that Contact Dermatitis I've been going through since I was a young teenager? And I've tried so many different kind of makesup and what not, but it always returns. Knock on wood, I only have one small spot under my eye presently and that's it. And I've been using all sorts of eye shadow, and I got a new mascara (which I have to review still), and eye shadow primer. Different brands, brands that have caused me issues in the past, haven't really caused any issues. I feel like that's gotta be related.
If you're a woman with long hair, you probably get those random pieces that fall out in the shower that you stick to the wall, claiming you'll clean them up after the shower, but you probably won't. Or, maybe when you brush your hair, you see a lot of hair gathering on your brush. Or, you blow dry your hair and you notice pieces falling out, some big and some small, in your brush and on your pants or the floor. You probably thought what I thought. I have a lot of hair, tons of it. It's long and it's plentiful. All the hair I lose I always thought was normal, Kevin finds my hair everywhere all the time. In his car, on his pillow, on his clothes, somehow in his beard.. literally, everywhere. But really, that's not that normal. Losing some hair is normal yes, but if it seems excessive, that's a red flag. Currently, I feel like I'm losing less hair than I was before, so I'm happy about that.
So, here's your monthly PSA reminding you to listen to your body, look for issues like these that you may simply by pass as normal, and demand to get your thyroid checked. No one knows your body like you do, so don't be afraid to speak up and be honest with your doctor if something feels wrong! You can't control everything, but you can try to take control of your health as best you can.
You can do it. Don't give up. GET YOUR THYROID TESTED!
When people think of me, I'm sure there's certain words that they associate with me. Vegan, crazy cat lady, Halloween, cleaning, and candles/smell good things. I make my own candles (though I haven't done that in awhile), but for all of my other candle and smell good needs, Yankee Candle is my go to.
Back when I first went vegan, I remember looking up to ensure that I could still use Yankee Candle, and I was thrilled that I still could. The blogger who posted this on the website I read was from 2012, and we're halfway through 2017. I wanted to get an update from Yankee Candle that they are still, in fact, vegan and cruelty free. So, I reached out to them via email, asking very specifically if they were still vegan and cruelty free, and if that pertains to all of their products, if not, please specify which ones are. I received a response not even a day later, which was a bonus to me, that their customer service is that prompt in responding to emails and questions. Props to them for that.
So, my fellow vegans, please REJOICE with me as Yankee Candle can still be our go to for the best candles around (in my opinion, of course!) With their Halloween collection coming out, and their Boney Bunch being released soon too, Yankee is going to take all of my money.
Make sure you're signed up for their emails, because they often send coupons. This was my most recent haul.
Their Easy Melt cups for their Scenterpieces are my favorites. They had them for buy one get two free, that's $5.99 for 3 of them, which equals approximately $1.99 per cup, which is a steal. Their Candy Corn scented Fragrance Spheres are my jam, and I use them in my car year round, and of course, they were also on sale. The small Pumpkin Buttercream candle, a personal favorite of mine, was only $5. Lastly, their full size Warm Upside Down Pineapple Cake candle, a new fragrance they just released, was $15 with your purchase, and it smells AWESOME. Basically, all of this was a steal. And when they have their semi annual sale, twice a year, look out, because I go hard, and often save 75%+ on my purchases.
You can't really see, but I have a Halloween spider web Scenterpiece I got during their latest semi annual sale, was only like $8 I think, maybe less, and originally it's like almost $30. This one has a 3, 6, and 9 hour timer. It shuts off after the selected time you chose, it lights up (not brightly so It doesn't interrupt at night), and it doesn't get very hot, which makes me feel safe using it around my cats. They don't go near it anyway, but still.
I'm currently using another new scent they just released, Sugared Pumpkin Swirl, and it's quickly become one of my new favorites. It smells like sugared pumpkin puree, with a little honey, caramel, and vanilla drizzle, and a little tiny bit woodsy. I'm obsessed, and you will be too.
Happy Yankee Candling, my friends!
Happy August my friends! One more month closer to fall. Woo hoo!
There's much to discuss on the blog, I know I've barely posted. But literally, school and work take over my whole life. So I really wanna get some blogging done, while I'm taking a quick break from my studies.
This is gonna be a post that includes a little of this and a little of that. First up, super cute baseball tee from Herbivore Company.
They're presently having a sale for an additional 20% off their sale items, so now is the time to shop! Plus, don't forget Christmas and birthday presents! I've been eyeing this shirt up for awhile and I figured with the sale, I might as well. They're unisex sizing, and I would suggest cold wash only and no dryer so they don't shrink. I ordered an XS. The shirt is soft and true to size. XS is my preferred size in unisex baseball tees, otherwise the arms get super weird. I'm pretty sure the sale ends Sunday so hurry up!
Next up, I wanted to talk about how delicious The Greyhound Cafe's brunch is.
One of my best friends and I went over a month ago, and they only serve it Saturday and Sunday, so I'm posting this with hopes that you'll go tomorrow and see for yourself. I ordered Banana Pancakes and Potato Latkes (without onions) and I couldn't get enough of either of them. I devoured them and was full pretty much the entire day. I wanna go back again, like ASAP. Absolutely worth the visit. Both were so good, and you wouldn't ever believe they're vegan. Even my friend, who isn't vegan, couldn't believe that my pancakes were vegan. He said they were some of the best pancakes he's ever tried. Big praise from an omnivore. They even make their own "butter." GO THERE TOMORROW IF YOU CAN!
Next up, Coconut Karma Coconut Oil.
Coconut oil is my jam. It's so useful for so many things. Cooking, oil pulling for your teeth, moisturizing your skin and hair.. the list goes on. You can use this one for everything. I typically only use it on my skin, and it makes my skin soft and leaves it feeling hydrated all day long. The easy twist off is convenient, but be careful not to squeeze it, especially when the coconut oil is at room temperature because it's liquid and you will make a mess. This I promise, because I've done it. More than once. It's awesome it be able to take it with you during travel since the cap is pretty secure, you shouldn't have any issues.
Next, OCC nail polish in Anime.
This bright pink was very out of my element, but it was fun. It's literally a pink that pops, it's almost electrifying. It lasted surprisingly long too. It was so pretty. I'll be using it more often, at least during the summer. Dark colors still rule my world 90% of the time, especially in the colder months. But I still really like it! They have a great nail polish formula too. This was a base coat, two color coats, and a top coat. Sign up for their emails, because they often have sales, especially for holidays!
Lastly, the necklace my husband got me for my Veganniversary!
My husband was sweet enough to surprise me with this necklace to celebrate my Veganniversary. It's got the date I went vegan on it, and a cute little bunny charm. I thought it was so sweet of him to do that for me. That date is so special to me, like I mentioned before, my Veganniversary is like another birthday for me. So, this necklace means a lot to me. He got it from Etsy, and you can see the shops name in the store if you wanna check them out!
Okay friends, that's it for now. I've got more to blog about, and I'll do my best to be diligent about it! I've gotten to the point where I'm half way into my first unit, and I'm hitting that like exhaustion point, which I anticipated. Plus, things with work haven't been great and Kevin is on night shift temporarily which really messes up my sleep in general. This girl needs a vacation lol. Fall is less than two months away and I CANNOT wait! I get a long vacation and I get to enjoy all my favorites during my favorites seasons. In the meantime, I hope you're all having a wonderful summer so far!
