This was one of the products in my VeganCuts Summer Makeup Box. Solid brows are essential to defining your face. I use my less than $5 BH Brow Kit that's literally like the best less than $5 I've spent in awhile, but I wanted to give this a try to review it.
I kind of have mixed feelings about this. I wish it was colored, which I know they have a brown shade as well, but I don't think that would match my brows either, since my brows are black, and I use dark brown to fill them in.
This is good for a day when I'm not actually putting on a face, but want to tame my brows. It's supposed to give them a more fuller look, while protecting and nourishing them, as well as keeping them in place. Fuller look? I can't attest to that. Protect and nourish? I'm sure it does. Coconut, Kelp, Vitamin B, and Sunflower Oil are great ingredients, so I'm sure with continued use they will be nourished further. Keep them in place? Yeah, I would agree with that.
My real complaint is the size of the brush. The brush is basically that of a mascara brush. I've seen other brushes for brows in glosses like this, and they have a smaller and thinner brush, that allows for better precision. I feel like not enough product gets to the outer levels of this brush, which is where you need it. When I apply it on top of my BH Brow product, it really takes some of the color away, which isn't necessarily bad, because it creates a softer look. But, I just spent the time doing my brows to how I want them, and I try to use this gloss, and it takes away part of the work I just did.
For a minimalist makeup person, this is a great product. For someone that didn't grow up as a teen in the late 90s - early 2000s, and over plucked their brows to the max because that was the style, this would probably work better for them. For me, it's more of a miss than a hit.
For only $14, it's a great addition to a minimalist look. Pacifica is very much about minimalistic makeup, whereas I prefer a fuller look with makeup. To each is own, and I think it's great to have a variety of products to make every woman feel beautiful, because everyone is. I love Pacifica products for the most part too, but I tend to stay away from makeup like this. They're perfume and mascara are my jams though. Personally, I just wouldn't buy this product myself. I'll continue to use it on minimal makeup days, which are usually Sundays, because I don't want it to go to waste. However, I can say, I won't be repurchasing.
See below for some photos of with and without, using my BH Brows first.
As a spooky vegan, I can't tell you the excitement I get when I find vegan and cruelty free spooky goodies. Ghoulish Delights has been a go to of mine since I found her, but I alway miss out on restocks because I'm tardy to the party, and because Amanda runs the business herself, it's a one woman show, stock is limited. Now, that's not a complaint at all. I love small businesses, I love supporting especially a woman-ran business because #girlpower, and when products are being handmade in small batches, you can tell the difference.
As some of you may know, if you've ever glanced at my personal page, @spooky.vegan.kitty - I'm a hugeeee horror and Halloween fan. Michael Myers is my favorite slasher, and Halloween is tied for my #1 movie, with three other movies that I could never pick my favorite favorite. I loved the play on words, Meyer Lemon and Michael Myers. Also, a good lemon scent is hard to find, and it's a great summer scent, or year round scent for me. If I find a scent I love, I live in it. I have found a scent I love, and I will live in it until it's gone. The scent is Meyer Lemons + Sugar + White Cake and it = a sweet lemony dream.
The MMLC Corpse Cream is the perfect texture. It's thicker than your average lotion, but not overly heavy like a cream. It absorbs really quickly, leaving no greasy residue. A little goes a long way, and I use it daily, sometimes more than once, simply because I love the smell that much. I keep it at home, so I use it when I get out of the shower all over my body (minus my face), and use it every time my hands feel dry (which is always because I'm moisturizer obsessed and I wash my hands entirely too much) and honestly, it's keeping my skin looking and feeling really healthy. I'm trying to use it sparingly so I don't run out quickly, but it's hard not to, because it's so wonderful.
I think when I run out of MMLC Perfume Oil, I'm going to probably cry. I'm not kidding lol. I literally bring it to work and just smell it when I need a pick me up, like a feign. Even though it's perfume oil, it's not oily at all. Surprisingly, it absorbs quickly into my skin and leaves no residue. I usually use my fingertips to apply it like behind my ears, for example, and after I rub it in, my neck isn't greasy and neither is my finger. Also, the oil also keeps my skin moisturized too. Bonus! The scent does last a decent amount of time, I just wish it lasted longer. It's very much a scent that's close to you, so unless someone is in your close proximity, they probably won't smell it much. Again, I try to use this sparingly so I don't run out, but I'm really in love with it.
I HIGHLY recommend you follow her page on IG, also join the group on FB so you never miss out on restock information. That's helped me to stay on track with restock, and she keeps updating the restock information. There's also a Master Scent list on her website, so you can get an idea of the scents. You can always ask too, and a lot of the group members (who are all awesome and helpful) and Amanda herself will help you out too. I prefer sweet, food based scents, and I haven't been let down by any advice I've gotten yet. This scent, when you smell it, literally makes you taste a Lemon Cake. I feel like I'm sitting in a bakery, eating a light and airy lemon cake with powdered sugar sprinkled on top. It's VERY hard to create scents that transport you somewhere else, and scents so simple yet so complex, and Amanda KILLS it with this.
The prices are fair, and you won't be disappointed with the products. I'm literally hooked and probably never buying another type of cream again. She just had a restock on Friday, and I bought another Corpse Cream and Perfume Oil, except in a different scent, called Breakfast With Witches, from her AHS Coven Collection.
Just trust me when I tell you- like, follow, buy, enjoy!
Summer Makeup Box reveal time! Ironically, this box didn't come with a cute little card with the details and pricing of the products on there, like there usually is. So, I had to do a little research on pricing and the deets.
I'm going to make this a short reveal, so that I can be more detailed in my review posts. I have tried a few products so far, and I want to give each of them their own posts. Here's what this box came with:
1) Pacifica Stunning Brows Gel in Clear - $14 - available on Pacifica's website, Target online, Amazon, Vitacost, iHerb, etc... Pacifica is a brand that's more commonly found in more and more places. I love the availability of their products.
2) Honeybee Gardens Effortless Eyeliner in Jet - $8.99 - available on their website. I like this small company because they're pretty local to me, and I just like small businesses in general. I would love to be a Beauty Ambassador for them, because I love supporting local companies!
3) Sarah Jean Eyelash Kit - $55 AUD I believe, based off their website - this kit includes lashes (natural, adding little thickness and length), glue, and tweezers for applying. Sarah Jean is a PETA certified vegan and cruelty free Australian company. I have literally used fake lashes once in my life, but my 30th birthday is coming up, so maybe I'll be fancy for that.
4) Derma-E Essentials Sun Protection Mineral Powder SPF 30 - $21.95 - available on their website. I'm excited to be using this on my upcoming trip to Disney, when I'm outside in the Florida August summer sun for about week straight!
5) Au Naturale su/Stain Matte Lip Stain in Marsala - $25 - available on their website.
This box totals $124.94, which is a great deal. It's worth mentioning that the eyelashes, if they're $55 AUD, that's actually cheaper in USD. So, the box value probably goes down to closer to $110, but still a steal overall. I think the summer vibes are evident in this box!
Reviews to come!
If there's one thing that anyone will tell you about me, it's that I will literally put every single person, even people I don't like that much, and every single thing, before myself. It's a habit I've had since I can I remember. It's an admirable quality, until you burn yourself out. Believe me, I know this first hand. I think there's several factors that have contributed to this not so healthy habit I have.
1) I'm a Virgo, and by default, we help others. Cosmically, we're bleeding hearts.
2) My Love Language is Acts of Service. I show I care by doing. (Unrelated: if you do not know your Love Language, definitely learn it, and learn about the others. It helps all of the relationships in your life if you learn about these).
3) I have a Type A Control Freak personality. If it needs to be done, I won't wait for someone else to do it, even if it's their job. I just do it. I have to stay busy, constantly.
4) Anxiety. What a bitch anxiety is. This ties in to #3 in the sense that I have to stay busy because I need to keep my mind busy. Once my brain has the time to wander, nothing good can come of it.
5) I'm an Overachiever, and perfectionism is the only way I know how to live my life.
If any of these traits are relatable, I'm telling you to knock that shit off, and take care of YOURSELF. There is only one you in this world, and you are a valuable precious human being to so many others in your life. What good are you burned out, having a break down, unable to sleep for 60+ hours, having panic attacks on your bathroom floor? Absolutely none, and I can tell you that from REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE.
Maybe you have dishes to do, cleaning to do, homework to do, food shopping to do, laundry to do, maybe this person needs a ride or that person needs this that or the third. It can all wait. Those dishes aren't going to walk up and go anywhere. There will still be food on the shelves at the food store (unless we're in a zombie apocalypse, totally different set of rules here). Your laundry isn't going to get any dirtier just sitting in your hamper. You are not obligated to extend yourself to the point you're ready to break Everyone needs to recharge. They need to stop and breathe. Go outside and just look at the beauty surrounding you, like the picture above. Even if it's for 5 minutes. Take those 5 minutes to yourself.
Take yourself on walks and find some leaves on the ground you find beautiful and just take a photo. I take photos of everything I find beautiful. It reminds me why I force myself, and go against everything I know and feel, to slow down and be selfish sometimes.
Take tonight for example. Friday nights are MY nights. Sure, I have a quiz to take, homework to do, and a paper to write by Tuesday night. Kevin is at work. I had a great opportunity to get some serious stuff done, especially homework. And I did a few things; made a vegan pizza and ate the whole thing, changed towels in the kitchen, unloaded the dish washer, set up my next two therapy appointments. But you know what else I did? Ate a vegan mango sherbet bar while watching a movie, laid in bed, kissed my cats, talked to some friends, listened to music, and wrote some blog posts. Because I know damn sure that I am reaching a dangerous stress level. I can recognize the signs in myself since I've been there so many times before. No one needs a mental breakdown in their lives; not me, not you, not anybody.
TLDR: Go outside, get fresh air, meditate, do yoga, ground yourself, take pictures of pretty things, do what you enjoy, hug your pets, listen to music, blog, journal, and take time for yourself and no one else. However you relax and recharge, do it! Don't wait, don't hesitate, don't go until the levee breaks. Do it now.
Raise your hand if you get enough sleep.
I know this is virtual and I can't see if your hand is up or down, but what I know is this - almost no one gets enough sleep. We are all in a constant state of exhaustion. Blame it on crazy work schedules, overloading ourselves with too many activities, too much Netflix, insomnia.. the list goes on. What I do know is that I'm thankful for products like this that allow me to fake it til I make it.
There is two colors for this. I chose the champagne shimmer shade Stella. The other is a rose gold shimmer called Aurora that I'll purchase next. Each shade corresponds with your skin tone. For light to medium tones, Stella is best, and for tan to darker tones, Aurora works. But the Aurora shade is really pretty.
This product really does make you look more awake. I use it just below my eyebrows, just above my eyebrows (basically think of lining the outside of your brows), the corner of my eyes, a thin light layer underneath my lower lashes, and sometimes I use it as a shadow on my lids. Sometimes I just literally use it all over my eye area. It's so fast and easy to apply. I haven't used the built in sharpener yet, but I love that it's included. Sometimes I'm more heavy handed and other days I go more light handed. The beauty of it is that, no matter what, it always looks good and never looks unnatural.
This is $24, which I know seems expensive, but as I mentioned in a previous post for Thrive Causemetics, they're called Causemetics and not Cosmetics for a reason. I never mind spending money on something when I know I'm helping others with my purchase. So, don't let the price deter you. Check it out!
When S.W. Basics had their 40% off sale, I had to stock up on supplies. Their limited ingredient products have really won me over. Considering how sensitive my skin is to.. everything.. I really appreciate limited ingredients.
As you can see this is a dry mask that has 3 simple ingredients: organic hibiscus, French green clay, and organic lavender. I'll be honest, lavender and my face have had issues in the past. The rest of my body, lavender is no problem, my face.. it breaks out. But, I decided to give it a try.
When you're mixing it in your palm, it looks like blood. It's awesome lol. I posted this in my SnapChat and said I was preserving my youth with the blood of virgins lol. I was truly concerned my face was going to be stained, because my fingers were a bit red after I applied it.
Depending on what you mix it with, this mask will have a different texture. I've used just water. You can use other products, like their Rose Water for example, face oils, or whatever else you like to mix dry masks with. Water will make it grittier, and more exfoliating. Go with what you prefer for your skin. Water is really just the easiest.
I kept this on for about 15 minutes, or until it felt dry. To wash it off, I simply used water and gently washed it away. It may take a few minutes to wash it off completely, but try not to scrub. Your face should be treated gently, both during application and removal.
I was surprised by how soft my skin felt afterwards. It was slightly red, and any areas that you may have picked and have scabs, expect them to be like an elderberry color for the next day or so. I know this because I'm a picker (thanks OCD). I've seen some people say their face was really red afterwards, and considering how sensitive my skin is, I'm surprised I wasn't one of them.
The reason for the redness isn't because of the hibiscus color, but instead it's the alpha hydroxy acid that naturally found in hibiscus that increases cell turnover. This is combated by the soothing lavender, while the French green clay pulls out toxins. It has everything you could want in a mask with 3 simple ingredients.
I was told the next day my skin looked like it was glowing. My goal is to be able to wear less face makeup over time, but that's still a while away. In the meantime, at least I have tools I need to help get me there. Unfortunately for me, my Hashimoto's causes hormonal imbalances (clearly), and acne results from that. If I can keep my levels balanced, hopefully my face will cooperate. I just need to not pick! Baby steps.
In any case, if my super sensitive skin can handle this, I feel like anyone can. There is two sizes on S.W. Basic's website to choose from. I got the smaller of the two options, which was $9.99 and I feel, even though it's a small jar, a little goes a long way, so it's fair price. The larger size is $19.99 which is also a fair price for the size. Their mini sizes are great for travel too! Check them out!
Rose Gold is the color of millennials. I don't care how basic that is of me, it's my jam. While I wouldn't call this color truly rose gold; it's basically pink with gold shimmer in it. Really pretty none the less.
This color looks pretty on both nails and toes, and not all polishes work on both, so that's a plus. Also, I love Pacifica so much in general, and I love their polishes. They really last well.
Look how pretty the color matches my dress!
As you can see, definitely more pink than rose gold, but that doesn't make me love it any less! $9 at Ulta, or you can get it on their website!
I'm forever on the hunt for new vegan perfumes. I haven't exactly found "my signature scent" yet, although it almost always includes vanilla in some way shape or form. I decided to go outside of my comfort zone and do a thing... blindly order perfume without having any idea if I was going to like it. I got it at Ulta, and had a 20% off everything coupon, a $10 gift card, and $11 in Ulta rewards. I actually was able to get this perfume, nail polish, and an overnight lip treatment for less than the price of this perfume.
I went through the different scents and tried to choose one I felt like I might like the most. A lot of them had floral scents, and I don't like floral scents, like, at all. The scent of this one caught my attention though. Yes, I saw Jasmine (which is a floral scent I don't hate), but I also saw mandarin, black currant (which I love), and sugar. I figured it might smell kind of sweet, fruity, and slightly floral.
The first note I got was Jasmine, and I think that's because I typically don't wear florals, so my nose catches them first. It's actually a really pretty scent, and the Jasmine isn't over powering. As it blended with my skin chemistry as the day went on, I got more of the mandarin scent, and it got sweeter. It is a subtle scent, so unless someone is close to you, they won't smell it. I'm pleasantly surprised by this scent, I really like it.
I got the roller ball fragrance oil. The oil melts into the skin nicely and doesn't leave any greasy residue, which is a plus. For $39, you get a really tiny bottle. I didn't read it beforehand, but the size is 0.3 ounces, and the bottle is tiny. There is a larger size for $68 that's a spray, which I may ask for for my birthday. There's a small set that's $21 which allows you to try all the fragrances. I may purchase that first then decide on a full size. They recommend layering scents too, which is another bonus to getting the multipack, so you can see if there's a layered scent that's just right for you.
You can purchase them on Ulta's website or on the DefineMe fragrance website. I definitely recommend checking them out! Cruelty free and vegan fragrances aren't easy to come by. So, when you find them, don't be shy to check them out! You never know until you try!
(Not) Happy First Day of the Hottest Month of the Year! =( I do not like summer. It is not my jam. I reverse hibernate. I stay inside in the AC during the summer because the heat makes me nauseous and cranky. But, we are one day month closer to fall, and that's the important thing.
I wanted to kick this month off right by doing some blog posts. As I hope you have noticed, I've been trying to blog more lately. I really enjoy blogging, and because of my obsessive personality, I've become obsessed with school. It basically takes over my whole life, and it really burns me out. Blogging helps relieve some of the tension and stress. Let's do it!
Let's talk about Rose Water.
Rose Water is so multi-purposeful. It's like coconut oil; there's so many different uses. You can use it as a makeup setting spray, a toner, a pick me up when you need some refreshment in your day, as an add in for powdered masks, and even in your hair!
By now, you've probably seen Rose Water in multiple places from multiple brands, but I chose to by from S.W. Basics for a few reasons. First, it's one ingredient- no fillers, additives, no junk I don't want in my Rose Water, just pure Rose Water. Second, it's organic and comes directly sourced from an organic farm in Bulgaria. Third, I like the products from S.W. Basics I've used before, and I'm a repeat buyer of companies I like. Lastly, they were having a 40% sale, and you can't beat a sale.
I use my Rose Water as a toner at night, to ensure I've taken all of my makeup off. In the morning, I use a spritz as the final step in my skincare routine, before I put my makeup on.
Why Rose Water? Let's talk about the benefits it provides. It's full of antioxidants, which help protect your skin from all the damaging stuff it encounters in the world, day in and day out. It soothes the skin and can help with redness, and can even help with fine lines and wrinkles over time with daily use. It helps moisturize the skin, but not too much. It's got a neutral pH balance, so it helps balance out the skin, It can even help with acne! Let's not forget, it smells amazing. It enhances your mood, with it's rose scent and really makes you feel fancy. The bottle says "like an instant spa day" and they're not wrong.
This bottle retails for $12.99 for 1.8 fluid ounces. Some people say that's expensive, maybe it is, I don't know. But I'll pay for unfiltered, organic, trustworthy quality.
