Have I mentioned yet that I love Lush products?! Lol. I haven't made a purchase from Lush in a while, and for the sake of beauty blogging (and also because I have a shopping problem), I decided to treat myself to this. It's the Lush Bella Fruta Gift Set. While Lush is 100% vegetarian, they're about 80% vegan. Fortunately, this entire box set is completely vegan! FYI, in case you didn't know, anytime you see that bold "V" on any of Lush's products or on the website, that means it's vegan. Lush's website does a great job allowing you to look for only vegan products which I love. Ironically, I actually came across this set by accident. I was on Lush's website checking out some products, and two of the products I had planned on buying, the Avobath Bath Bomb and Sympathy for the Skin Lotion, were in this box. I checked out all the products this box contained, and I was sold. Here's the contents:
This is a gift set, so it's packaged to give as a gift. The other part of the tag says "To" and "From", and there's a cute green ribbon wrapped around it. And seriously, how cute is that paper?! Naturally, I carefully unwrapped the box so I could save the paper and reuse it. It's entirely too cute and also wasteful not to.
The second I opened the box it was shipped in, all I could smell was Fruity Pebbles. I was so excited, because if that's how strong the smell was without even unwrapping it, I knew the products inside were going to smell amazing. The scent lingers too, which is awesome. Lush sends you a booklet with their products in it, and I took the booklet out and put it my drawer at work, and my entire draw smelled like Fruit Pebbles too. Every time I opened it I was like mmm. I got it delivered to my work and could hardly wait to open it until after I got home from work. I'm like a little kid when it comes to beauty products! So, the minute I got home I opened it.
Under that pretty paper was a basic cardboard box, which is totally fine because it's what inside that counts. To my disappointment, I found packing peanuts, which I hate. I was hoping for some shredded recycled paper but I imagine packing peanuts might be a big more secure so I understand it. The Fruity Pebbles smell was much stronger inside. My fiancé was on the other side of the room when I opened it, and he could smell it from there. Truthfully, the smell is amazing. And even though the scent was so strong, it wasn't overpowering. It's like the perfect amount of scent.
First up is the You've Been Mangoed Luxury Bath Melt, which as you can see, has already been melted lol. It's supposed to be a square, but instead it's just a blob. It's pretty much summer time, and melt is in the name, so I'm not surprised during travel it melted. It's going to melt anyway in the bath, so honestly I didn't really care that much. I did get a good chuckle out of it though.
Next is the Avobath Bath Bomb and The Comforter Bubble Bar. Avocados are one of, if not my numero uno, favorite foods in the whole wide world. I can't wait to try it! The Comforter Bubble Bar is scented with blackcurrent, cassis absolute, and bergamot oil. Both of these smell fabulous.
The Strawberry Feels Forever Massage Bar is almost too cute to use... almost. I haven't opened this yet so I can't comment on the smell, but I know it's made with real strawberries and coconut oil so I am sure I'm going to love it. Keep in mind, this isn't full sized. The full size is 2.4 oz and this is 1 oz. You can't tell in the picture, but it's still decently sized.
The Miranda Soap is made with real orange and kiwi pieces, as you can see. You can even see the little kiwi seeds scattered throughout the soap, which will provide a gentle exfoliation.
Last, but not least, the Sympathy for the Skin Lotion. This also isn't full sized. The regular size is 8.4 oz and this one is 1.5 oz. It's the same size as the Fresh Face Masks or the small Charity Pots. Still, not a bad size. It's made with real mashed bananas, so that's why you see little black stringys in it. Had you not known that, they may have been a little off putting. Fun little fact: Lush states that they got the name for this lotion from The Rolling Stone's song, Sympathy for the Devil, which is a fabulous song. You may know it from an equally fabulous movie called Interview with the Vampire. It's the song they play at the end of the movie and when they roll the credits.
As tempting as it is, I want to use everything like right away. But, I'm trying to space using these products out. I'll have a separate post reviewing the products as I use them. So, I'm going to wrap this post up by telling you about the price.
All of these lovely products are only $35.95, not including shipping which will of course vary depending on where you live. Individually, the Avobath costs $6.35, You've Been Mangoed costs $6.25, The Comforter cost $10.95, and the Miranda soap costs $7.25. All of that alone totals $30.80. I didn't include the prices of the Strawberries Feels Forever and the Sympathy for the Skin Lotion because they don't offer those products in the sizes included in the box. However, the regular massage bar is $10.95, and the regular lotion is $26.95. Plus, you get a pre-wrapped and ready to give gift. This box pays for itself. It's quality ingredients, and includes something for everyone. I absolutely recommend it! It's available on Lush's website, and possibly the stores. I hope you guys check it out!
I was finally able to not devour a whole tomato, and use a slice for my face. I had a slice left over from my tomato and avocado sandwich and I was like hey why not?!
I read that the seeded gooey part (I assume the more scientific word would be: pulp) is the part best for your face, but also using the whole tomato slice provides a gentle exfoliation for your skin. So, I took the whole tomato slice and rubbed it all over my face, careful to avoid my eyes and my mouth. Then, I basically picked apart the pulp apart from the slice and rubbed it on my face, paying extra attention to my chin where I break out the most, my cheeks to try and get a deep clean for my pores, and my nose where I have those stubborn blackheads that just won't quit. I would've taken pictures for you of this whole process, but my hands were covered in tomato goo and it was a hot mess! When I do it again, I'll try and make my fiancé take the pictures so you can see it.
Within minutes, my face started to sting a little and got really itchy. With every passing minute, my face got more red and more itchy. Finally, after about 7 minutes, I had to wash it off. It was just my cheeks, and nose that got red and itchy, nowhere else. I am nowhere near allergic to tomatoes. I eat them almost every single day. Also, I use my Yes To Tomatoes products every day twice a day. All of that, I've never had a reaction. So, when my face started reacting all crazy I was really confused.
After I had rinsed the tomato pulp off, my face was still red and itchy, and it stayed that way for about 20-30 minutes. I tried taking a picture of it, but I couldn't get the redness to transfer as well to the picture. I tried different lighting, and it just didn't look right. Out of curiosity, I went online to see if anyone had similar reactions. Several people said that they did for the first 10 minutes or so, then it stopped. I can only guess that it's the acid in the tomatoes really getting down deep in your pores and that's where the reaction came from. However, I have no proof that that's the cause, but that's what I think.
I do plan on trying this again, like on a night where I don't have work the next day just in case my face goes crazy and stays crazy for awhile. Unfortunately, I have sensitive skin, so it's always scary trying new things on my face. But, when I do try it again, I'm going to try and make it last a little while longer to see if the itching subsides. I want to really give this a whole hearted try before dismissing it.
But, now that my face has returned to normal, I can say that my skin feels super soft. Since I imagine that sensation was the tomato pulp deep cleaning my pores, I'm curious if that's going to cause my skin to purge and my acne to flare up. I'll keep an eye out and post any updates if so. Below is my face while it was calming down. My cheeks are still a bit red, if you can tell.
I would love to hear if you guys have any stories on tomato pulp facials. If you have any, please share!
It's no secret that I am a Vanillaholic. Everything in my life is vanilla scented. So, when I saw Lush had a vanilla scented body powder, I was in there like swim wear.
Lush's Vanilla Puff Dusting Powder is vegan, handmade, and smells scrumptious. When you first smell this, you get vanilla off the bat, with jasmine at it's base. I'm not 100% sure what Tonka smells like on it's own, but that's also an ingredient. The scent is really truly lovely. It's not overpowering, but it's not dull either. I apply it over my coconut oil after I get out of the shower, and you can differentiate the smell of the coconut oil and the Vanilla powder. I absolutely LOVE that each bottle has an actual vanilla pod inside of it. I shake the bottle before each use to really infuse that vanilla scent into the powder.
There are so many different ways to use this product, for both yourself and your home. It's getting to be about summer here where I live, and I am not a summer fan. And by not a fan I mean I can't stand it and would like to hibernate in the air until September. Unfortunately, I begin to sweat easily. My back and my boobs just get gross. Naturally, with cornstarch as the first ingredient, I knew this stuff should be able to help with sweating in the same way baby powder does. I apply it liberally all over, paying extra special attention to where I'm prone to sweating the most. I also reapply as needed, especially on extra hot days. Of course, I do still sweat, but I feel l like this helps as much as baby powder does. Also, it feels silky smooth on your skin. You would think because it's powder it would be drying but it's not. I think the essential oils are the reason behind that.
I also apply it to my hair. You don't want to use too much, especially if you have darker hair, because your hair can have a chalky color to it if you do. I take some in my palm, rub my hands together, and rub it through my hair. Or, if I'm using it to help absorb oil, I dust some where I need it using a big fluffy makeup brush. I have a brush I use solely for that, because mixing your brushes would be a no-no. I usually put it where my hair gets the greasiest, my bangs, down my part, and my crown in particular. I also flip my head upside down and put some underneath my hair to give it a little volume. It leaves a pleasant scent on freshly cleaned hair, and also helps to absorb oil on next day hair while still leaving a nice scent.
I have also read other uses including: putting some in your shoes or gym bag to mask the smell, sprinkling some down on your carpet before you vacuum, and sprinkling some in your sheets. I personally haven't tried those yet, but I certainly will. Basically, any use that you have found for baby powder, you could use this as it's substitute. It's like baby powder for grown ups. Grown up powder, if you will lol.
I have only two complaints about this, and their minor. The scent is supposed to last for hours, and at least for me it doesn't. Now, everyone's got a different chemical makeup, and what doesn't last on me may last on you. So, it's not fair to say it's the products fault. It could just be how my body reacts to the smell. My second complaint, and really this is the one that annoys me the most, is the packaging. Here's what the lid looks like:
So much product comes out and it comes out so fast that it gets crazy messy crazy fast. Because of that, you end up wasting a lot of the product because of it. I barely open the lid, just like a hair, and it still gets messy. I would really love to find one of those containers with a sifter lid and a big fluffy powder puff to apply it. I feel like that would cut down on wasted product and make it way easier to apply on your body. Here's what my bathroom floor towel looked like after I applied it. Keep in mind, this was just the towel. The carpet had some on it as well.
The plus side is that my bathroom smelled good because of the excess that fell on the floor lol. Overall, I definitely recommend it. The minor nuances aren't enough of a reason to not try it. This product offers a lot of benefits, and at a great price! This retails for only $6.95! And, I can honestly say, despite how much product goes everywhere, it lasts awhile. You can purchase this either at Lush's store, or on their online website.
I know I've said it before, but I'm going to say it again. I absolutely love Pacifica. They're without a doubt one of my favorite cruelty free vegan brands. Today, I'm reviewing their Devocean Natural Lipstick. These lipsticks are really creamy, super pigmented, smell like coconut water, and have some pretty awesome staying power. Beeswax and carmine free, no fake colors, no icky ingredients, gluten free, and all natural.
I was fortunate enough to have won all 5 of their lipstick shades on an Instagram giveaway. I was BEYOND excited. Because, I'm not a lipstick girl, but I know that there's times I want to spice up my look, and lipstick instantly does that. A bold lip can take your day time makeup to sexy night time makeup. It's that simple.
You'll notice that I said I won all 5 of their shades, but there's only 4 shades here. That's because the other shade, Natural Mystic, I gave to my Aunt as a gift because she loves darker shades of lipstick. So, I never had the chance to try that one, but I know that my Aunt loves it. The four remaining shades are: XOX, Rebel Sol, Tenderness, and Firebird.
I swatched each shade on my hand. The top is with artificial light, and the bottom is with natural light. It was later in the day, so it's like twilight light, not sunlight. I also took photos with the same lighting with me wearing them. I'll update the blog later with some sunlight photos of me wearing them so you can get the full affect! From left to right is: XOX, Rebel Sol, Tenderness, and Firebird.
The first thing I noticed when I applied them is how creamy they are. That's just lipstick on bare lips, nothing underneath and nothing on top. They're not flat or dull, and provide a lot of shine on their own. If you applied lip gloss on top, they would really shine! One of Pacifica's claims is that these lipsticks are hydrating. I believe that to be true. However, in my case, my lips dry out super fast. So they're not very hydrating on my lips, and I would have to apply lip balm underneath.
You can see how pigmented XOX and Tenderness are, but I feel like the pictures didn't capture how pigmented Rebel Sol and Firebird are. They both are a reddish shade, so I don't know if has something to do with that. But, I can assure you both of those shades are very pigmented as well.
It's so refreshing to find a red lipstick without carmine, aka crushed beetles, as an ingredient! I don't know about you, but I don't want any crushed beetles anywhere on my body. Every woman needs a sexy shade of red lipstick, without having to sacrifice beetles. Firebird is that shade. It's not an overpowering red. It's naturally bold and beautiful, which is exactly how you feel wearing it. Perfect for date night, or a night on the town with the girls!
Rebel Sol is a more natural pinkish-red shade. It's a good color for your work day. It's like your natural lip shade but better. It's just enough for a pop of color. For girl's who aren't big lipstick fans, I recommend this shade.
Tenderness is a mauve-pinkish shade. It reminds me of the taffeta on a ballerina's tutu. It's very feminine. If you're a girly girl, I think you'll really appreciate this shade.
My favorite of the colors is XOX. It's a very pretty shade of pink. This is definitely an every day color. From running errands to going to brunch with your sister, this color has you covered. It's enough to break up the mundane, and add some fun to your day.
All in all, Pacifica's lipsticks have you covered for all of your activities. Work, brunch, date nights, party nights, buying groceries. You name it. Not only that, there's a shade for all the different sides of you. From sexy and fierce to super girly with everything in between. The versatility of these colors really stands out. I think all of these colors are flattering on just about anyone. I love that these are all natural colors. Not just because of the ingredients, but because of the actual colors. These are colors you find in nature. Like red roses and pink carnations. I just really love that natural vibe. I wouldn't expect anything less than that from Pacifica.
Pacifica is available to buy in so many places. Whole Foods, Ulta, Target, and of course online on Pacifica's website. Each tube retails for $14. Considering the staying power of these lipsticks, I'm confident you'll get your moneys worth. I hope this review has helped both first time lipstick users to the pro lipstick ladies find their new signature shade. Enjoy!
I wear the name The Vegan Crazy Cat Lady with pride. My cats are my world. They're legit my kids. I feed them, take care of them, take them to the doctors when they get sick, give them a comfy spot to sleep (usually my lap, or my chest, or my belly, or my legs, or my face.. you get the idea), talk to them, and give them all the love and hugs and kisses they could ever want. Today, for my first ever cat blog post, I'm going to write about my baby boy, Leopold Vaughn.
You know how parents always say they don't have a favorite kid, but deep down we all know that they really do? For me, that's Leo. Don't tell my other babies, because of course I love them to pieces, but Leo has a very special place in my heart. Here's why...
Back on October 20th, 2012, my world shattered and crumbled to the ground when I had to put my 15 year old baby girl Reese to sleep. She's going to get her own post, but all you need to know at this point is that she was my world. Reese was my rock, and she was with me by my side through some of the hardest times of my life. Losing her felt like a part of me died. And, I was utterly devastated.
My apartment felt completely empty without her. I've had animals consistently my entire life. A house without a cat is no home at all. My fiancé and I were on totally opposite schedules the first three years of our relationship. Coming home every day to an empty and dark house was unbearable. No one will ever replace Reese in my heart, ever. But, I got this big giant heart full of love, and I needed another cat to share that love with.
I whole heartedly support adopting, and not shopping, for pets. There are so many animals available for adoption, so so many. And all of them deserve a loving home. Unfortunately, our landlord doesn't technically "allow" cats. We had to hide Reese the entire time we lived here. I would rather live in a box with my cat than get rid of my cat just to move into an apartment. As luck would have it, an acquaintance messaged me on Facebook telling me her co-worker's cat had kittens, and they weren't selling them, just trying to find good homes for the kittens.
A few days later after work, I went to meet the kittens, and here was this adorable little boy, the only kitten left, and instantly I fell in love with him. I mean, LOOK AT THAT FACE.
I felt an immediate bond with him. All pet owners know that bond. Just like with people, you either have it or you don't. And we had it. My fiancé and I went and picked him up on October 28th, 2012 and that's the day he became ours.
Leo was a handful as a kitten, as most kittens are. He's really the first kitten I ever raised. So, it was a great learning experience for me. They're like kids! He would jump into the fridge when we opened the door, claw apart and destroy the paper towels and toilet paper, try to get into ever single bag he could find, jump in the hamper and play in it, and so much more. But, he was so cute that even when he was bad I was always like aw! We trained him at night to go to sleep with us. It wasn't super easy at first, but he eventually learned that when the lights and the TV were off that meant bed. And he would jump on the bed in between me and my fiancé and get comfy and go right to sleep.
For how crazy of a kitten he was, he sure is one giant baby now. He's scared of everything! Especially kids. And pretty much everyone who isn't me, my fiancé, or my mom. That's part of his charm though. The fact that he's the epitome of a big scaredy cat is just too funny!
He's the biggest cuddlebug in the world. Even though he's fully grown, and he's a pretty big boy, he still thinks he's that teeny tiny kitten that would snuggle up and nap on my lap. And you know what? That's fine by me. He will always have my lap to call home, no matter how big he gets. <3
So, that's my Leo story. The story of a cat that put my broken heart back together again. The crazy kitten who turned out to be my best behaved cat, out of our six. Below, I'm gonna share some of my favorite memories and photos of Leo. Hope you enjoy!
Remember how I said my cats are my kids? Well, here's me and Leo visiting Santa at my work on his very first Christmas lol. Santa was a trooper, and also thankfully not allergic to cats. Leo was quite fidgety, as you can imagine. But, we eventually got a decent one!
I just love this photo of him. I have about 600 pictures just like this, him sitting somewhere being all cute and I snap a photo. My phone is always with me because I don't want to miss a picture opportunity!
Leo's first birthday party! I ordered him a cat cake from a local pet place. They even wrote on the cake "Happy Birthday Leopold!" in tuna flavored icing lol. We sang happy birthday, and I'm sure he thought we were all crazy. He wasn't a huge fan of the cake. But, the idea was cute anyway. And, I was happy I was about to get one picture of him in his tie. It lasted all of about two seconds. He's such a dapper fellow!
I hope you all enjoyed reading about my Leopold Vaughn! I still have plenty more cats to post about! I hope you all have a great Memorial Day weekend and get to enjoy some veggie burgers and dogs hot off the grill! =)
I love when people say "diamonds are a girl's best friend," because in my mind I'm thinking, um have these girls ever had chocolate?! lol. Chocolate is a girl's best friend. Now that we got that all cleared up..
Back in February for Valentine's Day, my lovely fiancé got me the Chocolate Lover's box by Vegan Cuts. Which, if you have not yet made your way to Vegan Cuts website, do yourself a favor and check it out, because it's fabulous. You can get great deals and free shipping on a lot of items. Plus, they offer monthly beauty and food boxes, as well as special occasion boxes, such as this Chocolate Lover's box I got.
In that lovely box, I received this sample of Thesis Beauty Chocolatier's Gift Face Mask. It's all natural, organic, vegan, and made with top notch ingredients like raw cacao powder, Kaolin and Moroccan Rhassoul clay, organic spices, and a few other skin loving ingredients. This mask is like a miracle product that does it all. It moisturizes without being heavy. It effectively cleans your skin without being harsh. It smoothes and revives your skin. Skin of all types and ages can use this product. I have oily acne-prone skin all four season, but I'm also lucky enough that in the winter I get dry skin patches as well. And when I was using it during the colder months, my dry patches felt smoother after I used this. And now that it's almost summer, and my oily acne-prone skin is about to be at it's worst, I still haven't had any issues or reactions. I believe it's gentle enough that even those with sensitive skin will be able to use it with few issues, if any at all.
One of my favorite things about this mask is that it's a powder. This is a plus for me because I love having the flexibility to mix whatever liquid I want with it depending on which skin concern I'm dealing with. Also, because of that flexibility, you can mix it to whatever consistency you like. Most pre-mixed masks contain fillers, which aren't always good ingredients. This mask is only good ingredients with zero fillers. What you may not realize is because it's not pre-mixed, you can actually make the product last much longer. I have only used 1/4 of my little tiny sample since February, and I use this mask at least once a week. A little really does go a long way, and anything that gives me more bang for my buck, sign me up!
I'm also a huge fan of the scent. It's smells like rich decadent dark cacao. Like, a really fancy dark chocolate bar. Cacao doesn't smell like the chocolate you might be thinking of. Most of those "chocolate" scented items aren't made of real chocolate. The smell is not sweet, but it's very pleasant and natural.
Something about this mask just feels so fancy and luxurious to me. It's probably a mixture of the smell, and the quality ingredients, that make it feel like something you would get as a facial at a spa. Usually, I come home from work on Friday night. Take my makeup off and wash my face. Then apply this and take a deep breathe and relax.
You can mix it in a bowl, or in a lid of some sort, on a plate. Pretty much whatever you choose. I'm lazy and would rather not waste a dish, so I use my palm. I also feel like just mixing it with my fingers leaves kind of a gritty texture to it, as you can see, because it's not fully mixed, and that grittiness provides a really gentle exfoliation while applying it. You can essentially mix this mask with anything. You could use water, any type of non-dairy milk, hot or cold teas, juices. Experiment with a little bit of everything to decide which you like best! You may want colder products for a refreshing summertime treat, or hot products to warm you up on a cold winter's night. I tend to mix mine with water because I like the consistency to be a little more watery than thick.
I just pour about half a tablespoon in my palm, add about 8-10 drops of water, and mix with my finger. This is about enough for my cheeks and my chin. I usually have to add an additional dime sized amount, with 4-6 drops of water, for my forehead and nose. Be sure to avoid getting it too close to your eyes, nose, and mouth. You can let it sit and dry on your face anywhere from 15-30 minutes. The thinner it is the quicker it dries, obviously. But, I usually watch TV or do some light housework while I wait, and the time flies by.
Not exactly the most glamorous picture, but this is what it looks like while it's drying. The paler parts are dried, and the darker parts are still drying. I also recommend using something to keep your hair back, like my adorable Hello Kitty head band, because otherwise your hair gets in your face and it's just a big mess. When it's all dry, I rinse my face with lukewarm then cool water, pat dry with a towel, and apply my usual skin care products I do every night. My skin always feels so much softer and smoother afterwards. This mask is a definite recommendation!
You can purchase a 2.85 oz jar for $19.95 on the Thesis Beauty website. Their website states that they offer free shipping on order over $75, otherwise, shipping is never more than $4.95. Considering the ingredients, the versatility, the results, and the longevity of the product, $19.95 is a very fair price. You could get a store bought, chemical laden, non-vegan, bunny harming "chocolate" mask at a drug store for cheaper, but you're not gonna get the same results, or good feeling you get buying vegan and cruelty free!
At 26 years old, I'm sad to say, I still struggle with acne. It's one of the things I am the most self conscious about. I have tried so many things between washes and creams and masks and prescriptions over the years it makes my head spin trying to remember them all. None of them worked. I did some research, and landed on the Yes To website. I've seen their products before, but have never tried them. I know that the Yes To brand is cruelty free, but not a fully vegan company. I read the ingredients of these products, and saw Glycerin and Stearic Acid. Naturally, I contacted them via email and said this:
"I am a vegan, and was curious about some of the products in your Yes to Tomatoes line. I see ingredients like Glycerin and Stearic Acid. Are they derived from plant sources? I read in your FAQ that the only animal ingredients you use are Honey and Beeswax in certain products, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks so much for your help!"
I received a response in about a day or so. This was my response:

Have a good day,
I was really impressed by Jessie's thorough answer. Customer service is a big factor for me. I work in customer service, so if a company customer service sucks, I'm turned off completely. A+ to the Yes To brand for excellent customer service!
So off to the store I went to make my purchase. I have read before the benefits that actual tomatoes have on your skin. Tomatoes are full of lycopene, Vitamin A C and K. They help with sunburn, smoothing and antiaging, shrinking pores, and clearing acne. I've read blogs and articles where people used actual tomato slices on their skin and had great results. But, being the tomato lover that I am, I could never waste a tomato by using it on my face lol. I eat tomatoes like apples. By that I mean, I wash them, and just take bite by bite until it's gone. I love them that much. After using these products, and seeing the results I have in just a short amount of time, I'm thinking I might have to sacrifice my tomato slices on my sandwich and use them on my face instead. Because this stuff works!
I have been using the Yes To Tomatoes line for 2 weeks as of today. This is actually my week for good old "Aunt Flo", and I've only had one small white head on my forehead, which the Acne Spot Stick cleared right up. And that's it! It's like a miracle! The main acne fighting and skin soothing ingredients in these products are: Salicylic Acid, Ginger Root, and Bisabolol. The Salicylic Acid kicks acne's butt, while the Ginger Root and Bisabolol help to avoid redness and irritation. I'm going to go step by step of how I use what, how much, and in what order I use them.
First up is the Yes To Tomatoes Daily Pore Scrub. There's ground Mango seeds and bamboo in this scrub to really clean pores, and help promote skin turnover.
Above is a closer up detail of the scrub, and about how much I use. Like a nickel sized drop. I wet my hands, rub the product together between my fingers, and use only my fingers, not my palms, to gently massage the product into my face using small circles. I find that the using just your fingers allows for just the right amount of pressure to really get in your pores. I would say I do this for about 30-45 seconds then rinse with lukewarm water. I pat dry my face with a clean towel. I use this scrub in the morning and night. Despite the fact that it's a scrub, it's surprisingly gentle. My face feels cleaner, softer, and brighter after each use.
After my face is all dry and clean, I use both the Daily Repair Treatment and Daily Moisturizing Moisturizer together. These two products contain additional ingredients like Witch Hazel, Watermelon, and Red Tea to calm skin and help control oil production.
Above, the clear product is the treatment, and the white product is the moisturizer. You don't need a lot of product at all for either of these. I would say together, they'll be smaller than the size of a dime. With dry hands, I rub the products between my fingertips and apply the products all over my face, avoiding the delicate eye area of course, and along my neck. It's at this point, if necessary, I would use the spot stick on any pimples. In about 3 days or less, depending on the size of the pimple, the spot stick will dry it out. And DON'T PICK! I'm a picker, so I need to really control myself. As the pimple dries out, it obviously gets hard and you'll be tempted to pick at it, but refrain. It'll heal faster and won't cause any scarring if you let it heal naturally.
That's my whole routine! I use all of these products twice a day; once in the morning and once at night. I would suggest in the morning you allow the products to absorb in your face anywhere from about 15-30 minutes before applying your makeup.
I was able to find a combo back with the scrub, treatment, and spot stick for $19.99 at Target which is a steal. It's also available on their website for that price as well. Individually, the scrub is $9.99, the treatment is $14.99, the moisturizer is $14.99, and the spot stick is $9.99. Imagine how much you spend on dermatologist visits, prescription products, fancy creams. You're looking at hundreds of dollars, maybe even thousands. You get the bundle pack for $19.99 and the moisturizer for $14.99 and you're looking at $35.98, with results and the comfort of knowing you're using vegan and cruelty free ingredients. You need so little of each product to see results that each bottle will last you awhile and you'll absolutely get your money's worth. It's a no brainer!
I experienced some mild skin purging my first week of using these products, and that was it. I have no drying or peeling. My skin is smooth and soft. I even feel like my acne scars are fading a bit. I do feel like using these products has helped my oil production because without it my face was an oil slick within a few hours. I do still need to touch up once, but it's way later in the day. And, to be fair, I only use foundation at this present time. No primer or finishing powder. I think once I add them, that will also help. I have read some reviews that people find the smell of these products to be off putting. I find the smell to be fine. And even if I didn't, the product works and I could deal with a bad smell if my face looks good. But, that's just me. The scent doesn't last on your face long at all. Looking at all factors, I honestly couldn't recommend these products enough! A friend of mine also suffers adult acne, and I told her about these products and she picked them up right away and immediately saw results. She's a believer too! I hope after reading this you will be too!
In addition to having like 8 lip balms with me at all times, I also have at least two perfumes with me at all times. I'm a firm believer in layering scents. I'm going to review each of these wonderful perfumes, and also tell you how I apply and layer them. First up..
These are two of my favorite scents to layer together. These are Pacifica's Island Vanilla and Mexican Cocoa. The Island Vanilla is simply amazing. It's not fake vanilla, it's Tahitian vanilla with a blend of fruits and tea for the base that makes it not overpowering and not super sweet. The Mexican Cocoa is a blend of spices like nutmeg and cinnamon with cocoa. It's not the cocoa that I smell primarily, the spices are definitely the top note. You get the cocoa as a base. It's a really sultry scent that is perfect for date night! They're a great mix for a work day scent. Still giving off a little spice, but keeping it light for work. Each 1 oz. bottle is $22. You can purchase them Pacifica's website, Ulta, and Whole Foods.
This is Pacifica's Indian Coconut Nectar roller ball perfume. This scent defines summer. It's a mix of coconut and vanilla. When I wear it, I always imagine I'm in SoCa,l sitting on the beach at sunset, fruity drink with a cute little umbrella in my hand, and the ocean breeze on my face. I often layer this with Mexican Cocoa. Together, these scents remind me of carefree summer nights full of fun, smiles, and laughter. It's magical! Each roller ball retails for $12, and are available on Pacifica's website, Ulta, and Whole Foods.
This is actual my newest scent by Pacifica. I typically only stick with vanilla, coconut, and spicy scents. But, I chose this solid perfume sample as my free sample with one of my orders, and I am so happy that I did because it has quickly become one of my favorites. Fig, moss, cyclamen, and clove are the main scents I smell in this perfume. They all blend together for a juicy and sultry scent that is perfect for spring. I love to layer this with Island Vanilla in the spring because it adds to the fun playfulness of the scent. The solid perfumes are $9 each, and I personally have only seen them available on Pacifica's website.
One of my favorite stores is Lush. Their products are so fresh and handmade. This is their perfume scent Vanillary, and it's by far one of my favorite vanilla scents ever. It's pure, natural vanilla that's sweet but not overpowering. My one co-worker tells me I smell like cookies when I wear it! There's a sweet caramel scent at the base that's just enough to give it a unique kick, different from any other vanilla scent I have tried. This is the 0.3 oz which is $15.95. There is a 1 oz. size also available for $42.95. You can purchase this at Lush stores or their website. Also, they have a variety of products in their Vanillary line like solid perfume, body lotion, and a multipurpose body powder to layer the scent for lasting power.
Last but certainly not least, Vanilla Bean Fragrance Oil by The All Natural Face. This is also a roller ball, but the main difference between this one and the rest is that this perfume is set in an oil base. The scent is pretty much spot on with the name. I like to layer this with my Vanillary for a sweet and saucy scent. It's a really wonderful scent, and it's super affordable. Pretty much everything by The All Natural Face is great quality with a great price tag. This is only $5! You can order it directly from their site.
My final verdict? I recommend every single one of these perfumes. Just remember, what smells like one thing on me, might smell totally different on you because of your body chemistry. Mix and match them to see what works best for you!
Welcome to my blog! This is my first time ever blogging, so I apologize in advance if it's a hot mess lol. My name is Ashley. I'm 26 years old, engaged to a wonderful man, a vegan, and a crazy cat lady! I'm obsessed with Hello Kitty, and have been collecting her for years. I also am obsessed with Halloween! Every day is Halloween for me! I have six crazy cats; Leopold, Sabrina, Tabitha, Ollie, Sadie, and Salem. They're my furbabies, and my best friends, and I just love them to the moon and back. Below is a photo of four of my furbabies, when they were still babies!
I just went vegan June 30th 2014, but prior to that I was a strict vegetarian for over decade. Going vegan has been one of the best things I have ever done with my life. Not only do I feel better physically, but mentally and emotionally too. If you're truly an animal lover, then there's no other option than to live a cruelty free and vegan life. Why is it acceptable to eat a cow, test products on a bunny, but have a dog as a pet? The answer is that it's not. I believe all humans and animals are created equal. We are not above them, and they are not above each other, in any way shape or form. Those are my core beliefs.
This blog isn't meant to bash you over the head with why you should be a vegan and should be cruelty free. I'm hoping that if you're reading this, one or both of those things already intrigued you enough to want to know more. So here goes the first thing you should know: Living a cruelty free and vegan life doesn't have to be hard, or even expensive. I started this blog to prove that. I'll be posting reviews about beauty products, recipes, food, and of course, my cats because that's what crazy cat ladies do! Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy!
If you ladies are anything like me (and pretty much every other adult in the world), you spend most of your time at work. I work at a bank, which means lots of hand washing, which leads to dry hands. I have 3 essential products I couldn't survive my work day without: hand sanitizer, hand lotion, and lip balm. I present to you, my essentials:
Most hand sanitizers you get at name brand stores are chock full of chemicals like Triclosan amongst others, not cruelty free, and not vegan. In addition to that, most contain alcohol which is super drying on your hands. I am a huge fan of Clean Well's Orange Vanilla Hand Sanitizer Spray. The scent is very light and pleasant. It leaves no sticky residue on your hands, and dries quickly. It doesn't burn your cuts either, which is totally a plus! They say you get 225+ sprays, which I feel is accurate because I use it every time after I wash my hands (which is a lot because I'm a germaphobe), and it still lasts me awhile. It kills germs naturally, and anything that combines killing germs and naturally in the same sentence, sign me up. You can order it online, or purchase it at your local Whole Foods for around $3-$4 per bottle.
I'm a certified vegan lip balm junkie. Like, if there was a Lip Balms Anonymous, I would be front and center. One of my go to brands is Hurraw; a raw, organic, cold pressed, and vegan lip balm brand. Their Coconut scent is one of my favorites. It smells like actual coconut, not fake coconut and not overbearing in the least. It's super moisturizing because it has actual coconut oil in the ingredients., amongst many other good for you ingredients. Whole Foods also carries this brand, but you can order them through the Hurraw website, www.hurrawbalm.com Each tube is around $3.79 each. They currently have a minimum 3 tube order, but they gave me a fourth tube free, which more than took care of the cost of shipping.
Lastly, one of my absolute favorite vegan and cruelty free brands, Pacifica's Island Vanilla Hand Cream. I will be doing several posts about Pacifica because I truly can't say enough good things about them. This hand cream smells absolutely amazing (I'm also a certified Vanillaholic) and truly is super hydrating as they say. A little goes a long way. It absorbs quickly, isn't greasy at all, and leaves a delicate vanilla scent on your hands. I apply it over my hand sanitizer, and the scents together smell delicious. You can purchase a tube for $9 at Ulta, or on their website www.pacificabeauty.com which if you do use the website, be sure to check out their other products. I promise you won't be disappointed with anything they have to offer!
