Earlier this week, I received my monthly box of happiness from Petit Vour! February's box contained a great mix of goodies! Included was: a sample of Hair Smoothie by Clinical Luxury ($2.50), Taupey Plum Eye Shadow by HAN Skin Care Cosmetics (full size, $13), a sample of Stem Cellular Booster Serum by Juice Beauty ($19), and a sample of Trance perfume by Christy Organics ($5.25). That brings this month's total box value to $39.75!
I've had a chance to use all of them already so I'm gonna be giving you guys my review as I reveal them! Yay!
First up, Trance perfume by Christy Organics.
Every time I receive a perfume sample in my box, I get so excited. It's not often they're included and I am always on the look out for a new vegan scent to try. This perfume is by a company called Christy Organic's, which is an Australian based company. This perfume has a coconut oil and jojoba oil base, so it melts into your skin and the scent will last longer as compared to an alcohol base where the alcohol dissolves quicker and so does the scent. The heat from your body activate the essential oils in the perfume and release the fragrance. This company claims the perfume last 1000+ hours wear time per 12ml bottle.
Christy Organic's perfumes are made with 100% natural ingredients and a minimum of 70% organic ingredients, so you can feel good applying them to your skin knowing there's no hidden nasties in them. These perfumes come in roll ons, and are meant for your pulse points. Trance is the scent that was included in these Petit Vour boxes. The notes in this scent are: jasmine, bergamont, and ylang ylang. The website described this scent as "seductive." Personally for me, I was not a fan. I prefer a more woodsy, vanilla-y, amber-y scent, and this is basically all floral. Even after I let it sink it, I still didn't like the scent. The sample was difficult to open and close, and the cap flew off while trying to put it back on and I dropped the whole vial and spilled almost all of it, which I wasn't sad about because I wasn't a fan anyway.
These retail for $54.99 AUD and $64.93 USD, and their website right now is offering free world wide shipping! There's a scent called Amber that I would love to try, but the price is a little much for me. The Amber scent is only $44, but I still don't know if I would spend that on a perfume I haven't smelled and wouldn't be able to smell to see if I like it. That's my only real complaint when it comes to ordering perfume online, if I don't like it I'm stuck with it! I like to try before I buy! I appreciate the sample they included in our box, it just wasn't for me.
Next up, let's talk about the Taupey Plum Eye Shadow by HAN Skin Care Cosmetics.
It's called Taupey Plum, which is exactly the color. I know in the pictures it looks like a brown with golden shimmer, but it's not. I felt like this shade is neutral enough that it could go with any skin tone and match any outfit, but I felt like it really enhanced my dark brown eyes. It's a really pretty color with just enough shimmer to make your eyes pop. The shadow itself is nice. It's not really a soft eyeshadow, so not a lot of product falls from the brush to your face, yet it's still easy to apply. The color goes on smooth and it blends really well. There's a nice color pay off as well. I wore it from morning until night, without any primer, and it held up really well. I didn't even notice any creasing, so I was pretty impressed! I've been wearing this every day since I got it. It's just really like the perfect go to shade for me.
This was the full size product in the February box, and it retails for $13. All the colors they offer are really neural and pretty, and I would love to try the other three! This company is all about being natural! They're free of parabens, toxins, artificial colors and fragrances, and carmine! I love especially that it's free of carmine! Check out their website. In addition to the eye shadow, they offer blush and lip gloss as well!
Next up, Hair Smoothie by Clinical Luxury.
If there's one thing I wish I got more of in my Petit Voir boxes, it's hair products. I get so many face products and a lot of them go to waste because of how sensitive and acne prone my face is I don't use them because I don't want to risk a break out. So when I saw this Hair Smoothie in my box I was excited to try it! This smoothie is by a brand called Clinical Luxury. The creator is a woman named Graydon and she considers herself the "Skin Chef." Their products are all natural, made with plant based ingredients. They're a mostly vegan, organic when possible, and nut free company.
This Hair Smoothie is meant to detangle and condition all types of hair; thick, fine, sensitive, and everything in between. The product itself is a light shade of green, highlighting the green ingredients. This smoothie is made with broccoli oil, parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme. These ingredients are said to help stimulate hair growth. Based off the ingredients, you can probably imagine the scent is very herbaceous. It's not the best scent, but it's definitely one I could get used to. It reminds me of the scent you get when you first walk into Lush, if that helps. The scent was very subtle after I styled my hair. You have to get right on top of my hair and physically sniff it, and even then the scent is light. When applied to your hair, it doesn't leave that usual conditioner feel on your hair. You know that kind of slimy-ish feeling, so you know you've gotten an adequate amount on your hair. It just makes your hair a bit softer but it doesn't feel like conditioner, so for that reason I think I applied too much. From the minute you apply it, you can feel how soft it makes your hair. I have a lot of hair, and it's really thick. When I brush it out after the shower, it's a painful tangled mess. When I brushed it after using this, my brush went through my hair like butter! I don't think I even had one knot. I was blown away! My hair looks so beautiful! It's shiny, extremely soft, but not weighed down. My hair looked great for days after I washed it too! Like it still looked freshly washed! So clearly this smoothie actually does cleanse as well as detangle and condition!
I want to order this in a full size as soon as I get paid, I loved it that much! The offer different sizes, including a: $2.50 sample size, 240 ml for $24, and 1 liter for $55. These are Canadian prices, so it's actually a little cheaper in USD. Shipping varies, but I believe under $200 is $15 shipping to the US. They offer different products too so check them all out! I know I will be!
Lastly, Stem Cellular Booster Serum by Juice Beauty.
I thought I read the paper wrong when I saw this little tiny sample cost $19. Then I read that the full size is $75! I figured with prices like this, this stuff has be to amazing. Surprisingly, I wasn't all that blown away with it. This clear gel has virtually no scent, which is great considering I don't want any unnatural perfumes on my skin, because they can cause irritation on my sensitive skin. I applied it right after I washed my face and right before I applied my moisturizer, like it said to. It left me with that kinda sticky feeling on my face, which lasted about a half hot then I guess it fully absorbed and the sticky feeling went away. I didn't use it under makeup, I applied it at night only before bed. I figure for $75 I should see some type of results immediately. Not like expecting a miracle or anything, but something, and I got nothing. I'll continue to use this as a spot treatment on dark spots, hoping with time it will lighten them up, and I'll report back if I notice a different. I was glad it didn't make my face break out though, that was a definite plus! I know that Juice offers a lot of excellent products, and they're a very well known company. I know people swear by their products. So, I will definitely continue to use it as I said and maybe with time I'll see some results. Would I pay $75 for this? No way. But I'm happy to try the sample!
Overall, just with the eye shadow and hair smoothie I was happy enough with this box. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this month's box! What did you think?
It's been almost a month and a half since I got this Power of Love eyeshadow palette by Pacifica, and I just love it! I wanted to review each color for you guys, and tell you overall my feelings on the it!
First off let's discuss the texture of the eyeshadows. They're very soft and smooth. You literally tap your brush on the shadow and you get a lot of product on your brush. If you've ever used Lunatick Cosmetics eyeshadow, these shadows are really similar to theirs. I would just be careful with handling the palette because the shadows could crack or break easily. These colors are nicely pigmented and also very fine, which I've found makes it last longer on my eyes. I don't touch up my makeup at all throughout the day, and even when I got home and settled down my eyeshadow was still on, and still looked pretty good.
I applied all of my shadows without an eye shadow base. I used a dab of Luxe Balm on my eyelids, then did a feather light dusting of foundation, then applied my eye shadow. I felt like this provided an even canvas so that I could get the true color of each shadow.
I did my best to get the best pictures eyes every day I used the shadow, but it was so much harder than I thought it would be lol.
On Monday I wore: Bare (2nd color) on my upper lid towards my eyebrows, Crush (8th color) on half my lid and part of my crease, and Luna (10 color) on the other half of my lid and the rest of my crease. Bare is a matte nude and it helped to even out my skin on my lid. It's a touch darker than my skin. Crush is a pink-nude shimmer and it was really pretty. It wasn't too shimmery but it added just enough color and sparkle to catch your eye. Luna is a slightly shimmery navy blue and I liked it so much more than I thought I would. I've never worn blue eye shadow before but the navy really made my brown eyes pop. This was my favorite look of the week. Below is a picture of me wearing these colors:
On Tuesday, I wore: Spirited (4th color) on my outer lid and part of my crease, Devoted (5th color) on my upper lid towards my eyebrows, and Soul (9th color) on my inner lid and part of my crease. Spirited is a slightly shimmer teal, and it is beautiful. It's my second favorite color after Luna, and it made me feel like a mermaid. It really stood out against my dark brown eyes and I loved it. Devoted is a matte cold toned tan color. It wasn't too dark but it was dark enough to stand out on my eyes. Soul is a slightly shimmery golden tan, and it really made Spirited pop. It's a very pretty color on its own as well. Below is a picture of me wearing these colors:
On Wednesday, I wore: Falling Star (3rd color) on my outer lid and part of my crease, Shine On (6th color) on my upper lid towards my eyebrows, and Treasure (7th color) on my inner lid and part of my crease. Falling Star is a slightly shimmery forrest green. Other than when I wear my EAGLES stuff, I don't wear green. This shade in particular is my least favorite. But, because it was so dark it actually didn't look terrible against my eyes. I don't love it, but it looked nicer than anticipate. Shine On is a matte yellow color and I didn't like it. You could barely see it and it didn't do much to my eyelids. It's my second least favorite of the palette. Treasure is a shimmery light brown, and it's really pretty. It's lighter than I anticipated but it's a universally flattering color. Below is a picture of me wearing these colors:
The only color I did not use is the first one, Mysterious, which is the red shade. I just don't wear red often, if ever. I do think that particular shade of red is pretty, and I think it will be very complementary for my dark brown eyes.
So, I've talked about the colors, which is the most important part clearly, but I just wanted to briefly discuss the actual palette itself. I love the presentation of this palette. The colors of it are bold and eye catching. It's a pretty palette that looks nice sitting out on your vanity. It's got the magnetic closure inside, so the flap won't just be opening when you don't want it to. Also, I think the little saying "you are so pretty" on the inside is a beautiful touch. Pacfica is all about inspiration, and feeling good about yourself, and that one little line is a great way to start each day as you do your makeup!
I think this palette is just perfect. There's colors for everyone in it. There's so many color combinations to choose from, and I think pretty much everyone would benefit from having it. And, with a sale price of $5.98, you can't go wrong. I'm not sure if they're still on sale, but check out Target's Pacifica section! You might get lucky!
I got this hand soap from Home Goods when I bought a little Deep Steep mini haul. I've been waiting forever to use it, but I finally finished up my other hand soaps I was using, and have made my way to this, so I wanted to post a little review about it for you guys!
Just a quick overview of Deep Steep: they're a cruelty free and vegan company that offers a variety of products including: body wash, body scrub, hand soaps, hand cream, foot cream, body mist, bubble bath, and everything in between. They offer truly natural products that look and feel luxurious but are offered at affordable prices. And, when you can find them at Home Goods, they're even more affordable!
I knew for sure I would love this scent. This scent is exactly the kind of fragrance I'm into. The scent is light and refreshing, but it actually lasts awhile on your hands after you wash them. The brown sugar leaves a sweet subtle scent while the vanilla is comforting, and together they smell so good! I really love it and want to try more products of this scent!
This hand soap is decently sized for the price. It's 17.6 oz and I spent $4.99 on it, but it retails for $8. You don't need a lot of soap to get a good lather going on your hands. Just a small pump is adequate. It leaves your hands smelling great, feeling clean, and feeling soft and not dried out. There's Aloe Vera juice, olive oil, and Argan oil in this soap and I believe that those ingredients together help keep your hands hydrated and soft.
Overall, this is another great product from Deep Steep. I plan on checking out my Home Goods soon in hopes to find more Deep Steep products to try! If not, they have a website you can order their products from! I remember looking before, and I think the shipping was kind of high, so if you can get them from Home Goods absolutely do so!
My husband is a pretty great guy. I know I've definitely said that before, but it's worth mentioning again. My husband and I took a road trip yesterday, and he drove a little over an hour to take me to a bakery. Not just any bakery though. This is Vegan Treats, an all vegan bakery that was rated one of the top ten vegan bakeries in the world, by American Express! Do you know how huge that is? This is a vegan bakery beating out all other bakeries, including non-vegan bakeries, to be one of the ten best! I couldn't wait to see the goodies they had to offer! I follow them on Instagram and basically drool over every post!
The trip there wasn't bad. It took about an hour and ten minutes and we had a toll up and a toll back. Which, I live in Pennsylvania, why do I need to pay a toll to go higher up into Pennsylvania? I get crossing over states, but within state? And if it was like $1-$2 sure, but this toll was $5.05 each way! I digress. Either way, at the end of the day, paying the tolls were so worth it for this place!
I was so overwhelmed walking in because there was goodies everywhere! They had an area of Easter baskets set up filled with Easter candy. They had a cookie bar full of big cookies in jars. A case full of mini cakes of all different kinds and flavors. Soft serve ice cream. Pastries. They had two tables, and some seats around the cookie bar. They were that vintage 1950s style red seats. I really loved the atmosphere of the place!
The girls that worked there were extremely helpful and so very sweet and friendly! They were knowledgable about all the products. They explained to me what everything was, and offered a sample of certain things. My husband and I tried a sample of their version of a Twix bar and even he was amazed it was vegan. It tasted just like a Twix! My husband and I settled on some Monkey Bread to eat there, then he bought me a bunch of goodies to take home!
The Monkeu Bread was unreal. It was so soft and fluffy, perfectly sweet, and the icing drizzle on top was just perfect. My husband couldn't believe it was vegan. When the sweet girl rang me up, she accidentally charged me twice for two Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel doughnuts instead of one, which she was apologetic for and offered me a refund, which I declined because I was just fine taking another doughnut lol. I really can't say enough good things about the staff! As someone who works in customer service, I know that that is everything for a business. Without that, it doesn't matter how good your products are, or what you have to offer, without the right people selling it, it's nothing. Vegan Treats absolutely hit the mark with their staff!
Deciding what to take home was really a challenge. I wanted one of everything! I knew that wasn't feasible, so I began the difficult task of choosing what to take home! After much debate, I finally made my choices!
Here was my take home goodies: 2 Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Doughnuts (I had one for breakfast today, it was amazing), a chocolate and peanut butter egg wrapped in cute little Easter foil, two speculoos eggs in a cute little pink box, two "Betterfinger" bars (as recommended by one of the sweet girls working there), two Twix like bars, a chocolate covered carrot shaped rice crispy treat, and a pack of dark chocolate and white chocolate little bunnies. All of this, including the Monkey Bread and a Snapple for my husband, was $46.50. I can imagine you're probably blown away by that price. Here's what you have to remember about vegan products: they're specialty items. Until the world wakes up and realizes that vegan is the way to go for the animals and the environment, the ingredients and the time and the effort it takes to make all vegan items is costly. It's not like every day I'm going to vegan bakeries and buying Easter themed candy, it's once a year! All things considered, with everything I got, the greet customer service, the atmosphere, the comfort in knowing I can eat literally everything there, and the experience and adventure my husband and I got to go on togehter, I thought the price was fair. You're not just paying for a doughnut, or a piece of candy, you're paying for compassion.
This is a company that's passionate about what they do. I'll be a Vegan Treats fan for life! And it absolutely won't be my last trip there! If you're not already, follow them on their Instagram and on Facebook. If you don't live in the area, they sell certain products on their website that you can order as well! Check them out, and you won't be disappointed!
Happy Eating and Happy Shopping!
When cleaning out under my bathroom sink cabinet, I found some things I totally forgot I had. One of them was the hair mask from The Ariel Co. from one of my beauty boxes I got a while back! Apparently they updated their formula January 15, 2016. The sample I had is the old formula, so I can't comment on the new formula. This review is based solely on the old formula.
The scent is really awesome. It smells exactly how I would imagine a mermaids hair would smell lol. Anything from a company called The Ariel Co. would be something I wanna try. I am all about The Little Mermaid! The scent is really natural. The ingredients are simple: coconut oil, kukui nut oil, avocado oil, castor oil, grape seed oil, and natural fragrance.
Here's how I applied it:
-This is a pre-wash hair masks. You're supposed to apply it to your hair, leave it in for at least a half hour, but you can leave it in overnight as well. Mine was in for about 45 minutes before I got in the shower.
-My hair was dirty when I applied it. It was 4 day old hair. I don't know if that really made a difference but I figured my natural oils couldn't hurt.
-I brushed my hair out and got all the knots out prior to applying it to make the application smoother and easier.
-Because it's oil it is a bit hard to apply. I put some in my palm and then rubbed it in that way. I had oil all over me and my sink, and ended up dropping the container and half of my oil when down the drain lol.
-I wish I had had a comb to comb it through for more even distribution but I didn't. So I made due with just my hands.
-After I had coated my hair thoroughly, I put my hair up in a bun with rubber hair tie. I didn't use a regular fabric covered hair tie he used I didn't want it to get all oily. At least the rubbery one I was able to wash off. A fabric covered one I would've had to have thrown out.
-I didn't drench my hair just did enough for it to be coated adequately. I didn't want to do my entire head, but I figured for the sake of the review I should do the whole thing. Next time, I will end up doing just my ends.
-I ended up washing my hair 3x to ensure it was all out. I don't know if I needed to do it 3x but I figured better to be safe than sorry. I got in there and really scrubbed my scalp. My hair was literally squeaking when I was done. My hairs never been so clean lol.
-I used conditioner as well, just on my ends though. I let that soak about 3 minutes before I rinsed it out.
-The end result: my hair looks really shiny and feels really soft. I don't know if it made a huge difference, but it definitely did help.
I suggest checking this brand out. I love that it's natural, it's affordable, and it's inspired by mermaids! I look forward to trying the new formula as well! They offer this in a 1 oz ($9), a 2 oz ($17), and a 4 oz ($26) size. They also have some lip scrubs and body scrubs on their website as well!
Yogurt was one of my favorite snacks prior to going vegan. It's a great mid morning snack to have with a handful of nuts to keep me going until lunch. It's ironic because I always hated milk, but couldn't get enough yogurt. When I first tried going vegan years ago, there was like 2 vegan yogurts available and I tried them both and thought they were disgusting. I was so hesitant to try another vegan yogurt again since finally going vegan a year and a half ago. Now a days, it's exciting to see how many vegan yogurts are popping up in store! My food store just got two new kinds in recently! I'm so happy to see there are more options for vegan yogurt now, and with all those options I decided to give vegan yogurt a try again. I have found two kinds to be absolutely delicious! Today, I'm going to talk about those with you!
These are my two favorite vegan yogurts, and I stock up when I go to the food store now because believe it or not, these are starting to sell out fast. On one hands, my heart is so happy seeing that more people are going towards dairy free alternatives. That means things are finally starting to take a positive shift and people are starting to see that dairy free is the way to go. On the other hand, it makes me sad because when I go to buy my yogurts and they're sold out I get disappointed I missed out lol. But overall, I am truly ecstatic to see how much more common veganism is becoming, and that completely outweighs me missing out on my yogurt.
First, let's talk about So Delicious Coconut Milk yogurt.
First of all, if you haven't had anything from this brand yet, you are SO missing it because they're products are seriously SO delicious, as the name implies. This yogurt is coconut milk based, as the description implies, but the coconut flavor is super subtle, and it doesn't overpower any of the flavors. I've tried every flavor my store has had to offer, and they were all yummy. The yogurt is really creamy. There's no fruit chunks in it which is a small let down simply because I like fruit in my yogurt. But it's not something I can't change by just adding my own fruit in, so it's not really a big deal. Because this yogurt is coconut based, it's a little high in fat. It's got 130 calories, and 4 grams of fat. Still, not really all that bad. It does have live and active cultures in it, so you're still getting the benefits from regular yogurt. It does contain 30% of the recommend amount of Vitamin B12 (which vegans can sometimes lack, and calcium. It also has 25% of the recommend value of Vitamin D. All of that is really awesome. However, I wish there was more than 1 gram of protein in this yogurt, and 2% or iron. That's my only real complaint. When you pair it with some nuts though, or another protein filled snack, it balances out to still be a healthy snack. I believe these retailed for $1.99 each.
This brand also makes a delicious almond milk yogurt as well, however, every time I go to buy it, it's sold out lol. So I can't show you a picture of it, but if you see it at your food store, you can bet it's delicious!
The other yogurt I wanted discuss is relatively new on the dairy free market, but the company is well know in being a leader in the dairy free industry. I'm talking about Daiya Greek Style Yogurt.
My favorite yogurt prior to going vegan was greek yogurt, Chobani to be specific. I always enjoyed the texture of greek yogurt more than regular yogurt because it was thicker. This Daiya yogurt is so thick and creamy, just like greek yogurt. It also has fruit chunks in it, so I was happy about that! I love that it's also soy free, because as I have mentioned before I try to stay away from soy as much as possible. It has no trans fat or cholesterol. There is 140 calories, a bit higher than the coconut milk yogurt, but I can justify that by the 8 grams of protein each cup has. In addition to the protein, it has live and active cultures as well. This has slightly less Vitamin B12 and Calcium (20% each) than the coconut milk yogurt. Also, it has no Vitamin D. But, it has 10% of iron. So each has it's pros and cons as far as it's vitamin levels. Each cup retails for $1.79.
Personally, I love both of these. I usually buy both and each one a day and alternate which one I eat daily. This is always my mid morning snack at work. They hold me over until lunch time. I absolutely recommend you check out both of these. I think you'll enjoy them!
"Where do you get your protein?" The question all vegans and even sometimes vegetarians get asked when you tell people you don't eat meat or dairy. My response is usually along the lines of "I got 99 problems but protein ain't one." That's easily one of my favorite lines! But seriously, if these people cared as much about the suffering of the animals their eating as much as they did about where, why, and how much protein I'm getting in my diet, the world would be a better place.
The truth is, I get my protein the exact same way as everyone else, from food. Lentils, quinoa, peas, black beans, non-dairy milk and yogurt, hemp seeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, tofu, tempeh, spinach, black eyed peas, Larabars, nuts.. the list goes on! However, whether you're lifestyle is all about fitness or it's more like "fitness this whole pizza in my mouth," protein powder can certainly enhance your diet.
The hard part is choosing a protein powder that's best for you. I did a lot of research on the different kinds of vegan protein powder out there before I found one to try. I'm not all about that gym life, so I know I didn't need one like made for working out. I knew I needed one just to give me what I might be missing. I eat a healthy diet or course so I wasn't concerned I was lacking a lot, but let's be real. There's days where I'll literally just eat an entire containers full of mashed potatoes with no shame. We all have days, whether it's from stress or from lack of time, where eating healthy just isn't feasible. I needed something for those days. Lastly, I have an extremely sensitive stomach, and we all know what protein does to your belly. So I needed to find one that was gentle and easy to digest.
All my research led me to this:
I talked to my best friend about it because he's all into the gym and protein. I asked him to let me know if he came across it in his travels to different stores so I wouldn't have to order it and pay for shipping. Because I have the world's best friend ever, he not only found it, but he also bought it for me with two different types of purple blender bottles! He's pretty much awesome!
This one really stood out for me for a few different reasons. The first was that it's easy to digest and gentle on the stomach, while at the same time allowing for maximum absorption. I wanted something easy to digest but I also wanted something that was going to work. Also, I love that it's a complete source of protein, including organic sprouted amaranth and quinoa. I know that quinoa is considered complete sources of protein. What that means is that these sources of protein include the nine essential amino acids that our body can't produce on it's own. That's why these sources of complete protein are so important. In addition to that, there are 18 amino acids in this as well. This stuff is free of the major allergens. Lastly, I liked that it was gluten free and soy free. I tend to stay away from those ingredients as often as possible.
Each 30 gram scoop has 21 grams of protein of it, which is almost half of the recommended percent daily value. I chose the vanilla because I always choose vanilla everything. I figured that was a safe bet since that's my favorite flavor. I liked that you don't need anything fancy to use it, just a blender bottle and some chilled water and you're good to go. That's great for those on the go, like myself. The price isn't bad either. It's $29.99 for this 1 pound container.
I was so excited to try it, but also super nervous. It says easy to digest, and the reviews I read made it seem that that claim was true. But my belly isn't an average person's belly. So for a while I just kept looking at it and saying "I'm gonna try it" but never did.
I knew that trying an entire scoop in one sitting was risky business. I figured I would start with a teaspoon and gradually work my way up. Instead of mixing it with water, I decided to mix it in my smoothies for breakfast. I figured the added protein would be great for breakfast because that way I would stay full and ready to take on my mornings at work. I'm up to about a quarter of the scooper now. Each day I just add a bit more than I did the day before. I will say that I find this is be easier to digest than I thought it would be. Granted I'm only using a small amount to get my body used to it, but I expected I would feel much worse as I adjusted to it. I would say that the claim to be easy to digest seems valid. With that being said, it is still protein so I still feel the affects of drinking it with my belly. It's to be expected. I definitely find myself being more full after I drink my smoothie in the morning than when I was just drinking my smoothie plain. So I know that my body is absorbing it. Considering I'm using so little, I feel like I'll get a lot of use out of this one container, so I feel the value is fair. The only thing I'm not super convinced on is the flavor. It absolutely doesn't taste like vanilla. I can't describe the taste honestly, but I know that it's not vanilla. I don't hate it though. When I mix it in my smoothie, I do taste it, but I get used to it after a few sips. I don't know if I would try the other flavors. I know they have chocolate, chocolate raspberry, unflavored, and cookies and cream. I may try the unflavored one next. We'll see.
Overall, I am pretty happy with this product. I feel like it does what it should. And, I feel like the price is fair. I believe my friend got this at The Vitamin Shoppe. I know you can order it online through various outlets as well. Check it out and do some research and see if this one, or another protein powder, is best for you. I suggest doing research before purchasing anything. Also, talk to your doctor. This is your health, and they know best when it comes to that.
I am so excited to be doing a reveal and review of my Petit Vour January Beauty Box! Unfortunately, we had a huge snow storm the week it was supposed to arrive so it got pushed back a few days and I received it this past Monday. But, it was so worth the wait! I was so excited I already tried everything!
As you can read in the photo above, this month's box was jammed with an array of awesome goodies. You pretty much got something for every part of your body, which is my favorite kind of box. This box month's box is retailed at $48! Wow!
First up, let's discuss the Kaia Natural's Bamboo Tapioca Beads..
-According to the package, you can use it as a daily cleanser or a face mask. I chose face mask. I used my regular Pacifica face wash to wash my makeup off first. I wanted to use this on a freshly cleaned face.
-After I washed my face, I didn't dry it since you're supposed to apply this to wet skin. I added about a quarter size amount of powder in my wet palm, and I wet my fingers on my other hand, and mixed it up a little in my palm to create a paste and applied that in small circles to my face. I needed to use a little more than what I originally poured into my hand, probably about the size of a nickel. I was all completely guessing on how much and how to apply it, I had no clue. This seemed to work pretty well. I only applied a thin layer to my face.
-I really love the smell. It smells like a giant bowl of citrus fruits; oranges, limes, and a hint of lemon! It's really a refreshing and vitalizing smell. I could still get a faint hint of the smell while it was on my face and it really made the whole experience pleasant.
-It dried relatively quickly on my face. I kept it on for about 10 minutes before washing it off with warm water. I had no itching, burning, or otherwise uncomfortable sensation while applying it or while it dried. I love that there's none of those fake plastic beads in it. It's all natural exfoliation from real ingredients. It's kind of gritty like sand, but it's really gentle.
-Because of its gritty texture, it's a little harder to get all of it off because there's so many tiny little pieces to get off.
-After I rinsed it off, my face felt clean and smooth. There was no residue or anything like that left behind. My face did feel a little tight, which I had expected because of the kaolin clay and tapioca absorbing the oil. Once I put my usual moisturizer on, my skin felt normal.
-I can see this being really helpful when you're traveling and with all those TSA rules, having a powder instead of a liquid face wash can really come in handy.
-If you are interested in buying the full size of this product, it retails for $38!
Next up, French Girl Organic's Rose Lip Polish..
-The texture of this scrub is like mousse with sugar crystals mixed in. It was much softer than I thought it would be. It's surprisingly moisturizing too. You can really feel the oils mixed in with the sugar.
-The scent is really pleasant. You can smell the peppermint which is soothing, and you can smell the rose and geranium oils as well. They all blend together nicely.
-I used a lip scrub from Lush before and it made my lips like break out. I've been so afraid to use another lip scrub ever since. I used a small amount and gently using small circles massaged it into my lips. A little does go a long way, you don't need much at all! I think I may have exfoliated a little much because my lips felt just slightly scratchy afterwards, but nothing major. I gently wiped it off using warm water and patted my lips dry. I could feel the oils left over on my lips afterwards, which was nice, but I still felt the need to use my Hurraw lip balm afterwards.
-My lips feel softer and my lip balm lasted longer on my lips than it usually does, so I know that it did exfoliate the dead skin off my lips.
-The full size of this retails for $16. I was checking out their other products on their Etsy page, and they have a lot of other great looking products I want to look into trying!
Next up, my favorite from the whole box, S.W Basics Mini Cream..
-This is the full size item in this box. This cream comes in a 1 oz glass jar, and retails for $12. I couldn't understand how some tiny little bottle of cream could cost that much, until I tried it.
-This stuff has only 3 ingredients: fair trade shea butter, coconut oil, and olive oil. That's it! Because there's no water, this won't just evaporate in ten minutes causing you to reapply. It's real moisture. The scent is very natural. It's oddly soothing. Apparently a lot of people complained about the scent of this product from their boxes. There was some issues that the smell was really offer. Petit Vour sent an email stating that this batch for the beauty boxes smelled stronger than usual because the olive oil scent didn't mix too well with the shea butter and coconut oil scent. For me, even though it's a weird smell, I like it,and wouldn't have complained or questioned otherwise. I'm curious to know how it smells regularly.
-The texture is unlike anything else I've ever used. It's velvety smooth and soft. It's thick and creamy. It's pretty awesome. I wanted to keep applying it because of how smooth it was! A little goes a long way. I really got in there and rubbed it in my knuckles and in between my fingers which is where I'm the driest and where my hands crack. It didn't burn my hands at all. It absorbed faster than I thought that it would considering it's so thick. I don't think it made my hands feel greasy, but if you're not used to thick products like this, you'll probably find your hands feel greasy. I'm just used to this kind of texture because it's what I have to use because of my eczema.
-I feel like with regular use I could see an improvement in my hands. I already feel an improvement in my hands from using it at night before bed. When I woke up after using it before bed, my hands still felt soft. The only problem with having it in a jar with my job I can't use it. I'm not gonna touch cash all day then put my hand in the jar. I know with the ingredients it's hard to put it in a squeeze bottle because of the consistency of coconut oil and temperature. But I'll definitely use this at home and hopefully with repeated use it will help my hands. I've also been using it on my feet and they feel softer too. I would love to use it all over my whole body but I don't want to use it all so fast so I'm only using it where I feel like it will do the most good.
-I know it's irrelevant but I love the cute little glass jar it comes in and already cant wait to reuse it after it's empty. I keep coming up with different ideas on what to use it for!
-I am excited to tell you that you can find this and other S.W Basics products at Target!
Last up, Evelyn Iona's gel liner and brush set..
-I would love to have a photo to show you of me wearing this eyeliner. However, it's been a long time since I've applied eyeliner from a pot, and I'm a little rusty, and it was a disaster when I tried it today lol. I didn't have time to reapply it again so I removed it and just called it a day.
-I can tell you that this eyeliner DOES NOT remove easily. When I screwed it up today, I literally tried to take it off almost immediately after applying it to both eyes, and I just grabbed a wet napkin to try and whip it off, and it wouldn't budge. I had to literally get a makeup remover pad and almost scrub to get it off. It does say on the Petit Vour card to use coconut oil to remove. I just ran out, so when I buy another jar, I'll fill up a small container to use just on my eyes to remove it. I don't think I'll be using it again until I get that.
-The eyeliner dries to a matte finish. It doesn't have that wet look once it dries.
-I think this tiny little pot thing is a bit difficult to use, but since it's a sample, it's not a big deal.
-The brush is really nice, but I wish it was a little stiffer to make the application easier. On the Evelyn Iona website, they have a liner brush and it doesn't look like this. So, I guess I'm a little confused as to why it was this brush, when this brush I don't even see on their website.
-The bonus to this product is that you can use it as an eyebrow filler as well, which is FANTASTIC for me because I have black eyebrows and I can't even find anything for black eyebrows. I always see dark brown but it's still too light! I think I may try using this for that next.
-You can actually get the full size pot and eyeliner brush on sale right now for $28 on the website!
Overall, this is one of my favorite boxes I've received in awhile. Another home run for Petit Vour!
Ever since I saw Pacifica's new mascara on their Instagram I've been just itching to find it and get it. My old Pacifica mascara was starting to get pretty dry so I needed a new one anyway. The timing was right! I made my way to Target on Saturday, and was so happy to find that they had some in stock! I've been using it ever since and I am so excited to tell you guys all about it!
This new mascara is called Dream Big. I got the color Black Magic, which honestly is all I saw so I'm not positive what other colors, if any, that they offer. This mascara claims to lengthen, lift, and volumize lashes in an instant with its new fancy brush. Also, this mascara claims to be actually healthy for your lashes by conditioning them. Lastly, the natural peptides in it are clinically proven to enhance the length and volume of your natural lashes with regular use. Those are a lot of big claims to fill! So how does it actually hold up to said claims?
The answer: it does all that and then some! I've never been more smitten with a mascara in my life! If you read my reviews for Pacfica's Stellar Glaze mascara, you might remember my only complaint about that mascara was that the brush was too thick for my lashes. Well, they certainly changed that with this mascara and it's the coolest mascara brush I've ever used! The brush itself is not plush like the Stellar Glaze. It's thin with tiny little grabbers, which I love. I have lots and lots of lashes so the thinner the brush the better because they actually grabs and separates my lashes. But this brush takes it a step even farther. There's a little knob on the top of the brush handle where you can twist it to lengthen or shorten the brush. I mean literally the brush gets longer and shorter right before your eyes. For your first coat, you want the longer brush because that's what lengthens your lashes. Then, after that coat dries, for your second coat, you want the shorter brush because that volumizes your lashes. If you want them bigger and longer, just keep applying until you achieve the look you want! My lashes have never looked so good!
That's not only thanks to the fancy brush, but thanks to the formula too! This formula is really rich in color so it makes my eyes really pop. And it does absolutely condition your lashes. When I take my makeup off at night my lashes feel so much softer than they did. And this is only in just a few uses I'm noticing this! I can't comment on if it actually helps long term with length and volume considering I haven't used it that long but I can say that I feel like I've had less lash fall out with this mascara than with other mascaras. This mascara doesn't flake throughout the day. It doesn't run if you're sweating. And, I haven't had any problems with it clumping. It's really amazing how phenomenal this mascara is!
I'll have more photos coming for you guys soon, but this was as good as I could get. My left eye (which is really my right eye is you're being particular) is just regular, curled with an eye lash curler (which I do pre-mascara.) And my other eye is with just one quick coat of mascara on my upper lashes. I'm talking quick because I was running late. That's not even full. So you know even on your rushed days your mascara will still look good! It's not the best photo, but I'll take more and add on to this later!
Also with this mascara, it doesn't say that it's waterproof but it is definitely takes some work to get it off at night. That might be a blessing or a curse for you depending on your preference. I wasn't prepared for that so it caught me off guard but really I need a mascara that can hold up to my long days and sometimes long nights. I have zero time for touch ups during my day so I think the fact that it's long lasting is a bonus. Just make sure you have good makeup remover!
I bought this mascara for $13.99 at Target. I haven't seen it anywhere else, even on Pacifica's website. So quickly run to Target and grab yourself one or two (or five) and be prepared to fall in love with this mascara as much as I did!
