As you guys all know, Valentine's Day is coming up, and love is in the air! I personally am not a fan of Valentine's Day at all, but I am a fan of getting chocolates and sweets from my husband! I'll take any excuse to eat some vegan junk food lol. So today, I'm going to tell you guys about 3 absolutely delicious noms that will sweep your loved one (or yourself) off your feet!
This is brand is relatively new to my food store, and boy am I happy to see them! These delicious little chocolate cream tarts are fantastic! You get six per pack, and it's funny because they call it a party pack, and I'm like yeah party pack for one lol. Good luck getting me to share these things! The ingredients are pure, natural, and simple as you can read above. The chocolate in these tarts are so rich and decadent, and wrapped up in that delicious smooth cocoa is little pieces of shredded coconut! None of the flavors overpower one another, instead they just blend together to create one delicious little treat that you can't put down! I'm not sure what I paid for them, but I would say about $5 dollars. You will fall head over heels in love with these!
Even when I ate dairy, I was never a huge fan of ice cream. It always gave me a belly ache and made me feel terrible after eating it, so I never really cared for it. So, as a vegan, I really never cared to try vegan ice cream since I just never much acquired a taste for it. But at my most recent food shopping trip, I decided to go outside of my box and try some! I decided on this one by So Delicious. This stuff is so delicious! It's still smooth and creamy like ice cream. The coconut flavor is so subtle you really only get it as an after taste. It tastes just like strawberry ice cream! You want to make sure you let it sit out for a few minutes because it's really hard to scoop out if not. I was so happy I decided to make this purchase! Again, I didn't pay much attention to the price when I bought it but I would think it's along the lines of $5-$6, and worth every penny! One taste of this and your loved one will melt!
I saved the best (and most expensive) for last! Premium Chocolatiers Vegan Truffles, all packaged in a heart shaped box and ready for gifting! I actually told my husband to get me these as my gift lol. I've only tried 3 of these little balls of chocolate Heaven and they are SOO good! The Salted Caramel Truffle is easily my favorite and if they had a whole box of those I would be happy. Sweet and salty, they the perfect combination! The Milk Fudge Truffle has a slight vanilla flavor to it, and it really compliments the milkless chocolate. The Raspberry Truffle tastes just like raspberries and chocolate, slightly fruity and sweet. I haven't tried the Grand Marnier Truffle, which has white chocolate and the flavor of Grand Marnier orange liquor. And I also haven't tried the Coffee Truffle because I don't like coffee lol. I've been trying to get my husband to eat those ones since he loves coffee! each truffle is truly decadent, and usually one is enough for me. Honestly, if I gave these one of these to a non-vegan and told them to try one, they wouldn't believe that it's vegan. Their milkless chocolate is so similar to real milk chocolate I don't know how they do it. This box, available on the Premium Chocolatiers website, is $34.95! I know, it's crazy. Total with shipping, my husband paid about $41. However, because these are clearly a special occasion chocolate, I think it's worth it. I won't be done with this box for awhile considering I don't eat chocolate too often, plus I want to savor it. But, buying your loved one something this special will surely show to them just how special you find them, so it's worth it!
I want to mention as a side note that when I was just a vegetarian, I could barely eat anything like this. My stomach would be sick for not just a day, but days. Any type of chocolate, ice cream as I said above, pretty much anything with dairy other than cheese and yogurt. I'm not lactose intolerant, and I know this because they checked me for it, more than once if I recall correctly. But, it's 100% true that our human bodies are not meant to digest non-human milk. It's not meant for us. That's a fact. Personally, I haven't the slightest clue how someone decided that the milk that comes from a cow is something we should be drinking anyway. It just doesn't make sense. Anyway, I felt it worth mentioning that I can eat these dairy free products without suffering the same consequences from it's dairy counterpart. So even if you're not a vegan, but you suffer like I did, maybe you're lactose intolerant or maybe you have IBS or a sensitive belly, you can still live a normal and happy life eating the same stuff you used to love. Don't give up hope!
I hope that you and your loved one have a wonderful Valentine's Day! My husband and I plan on hanging out and watching the Walking Dead mid season premier! That's our kinda romance lol.
I know that I don't need any more makeup. But what I do know is that I can't resist a sale, especially when it's a Pacifica sale. Even more so when the original price is $19.99, and it's on sale for $5.98! Come on now!
The colors in this palette are not only beautiful, but they're neutral and go with any eye color and can match pretty much anything. You can create so many looks with these trendy shades! You get ten colors in this palette. These are the names of each color, which I assume are from top to bottom and left to right:
3) Falling Star
6) Shine On
Aren't they so pretty!
I took some closer photos of the shadows so you can get a better view! I haven't used this palette yet honestly. I've been kinda slacking on wearing make up lately, but I want to try and use all the colors this upcoming week so I can write a review post for you guys!
I also wanted to mention to you guys about the packaging. As with all Pacifica products, the packaging is eco friendly. The packaging is recyclable, and it's printed using soy ink. It's pretty sturdy, and has magnetic closure so it's secure if you put it in your bag to take it with you. Also, I really love the colors and design of the package as well. It's fun and it really pops. It's pretty enough to leave out instead of stashing it away in your make up bag. The last thing I wanted to mention is that, as you can see in the above picture, on the inside of the lid it has the inspiration message saying "you are so pretty" and I think that's just so fantastic. Pacifica is such an inspirational and positive company, and I just can't get enough!
So make your way to Target and check out this palette! I got it about two weeks ago so I'm not sure if it's still on sale, but I hope you guys can find it for a great price! While you're there, check out the rest of the Pacifica products that Target has to offer, and I promise you won't be disappointed!
I posted a blog a few months back about Method Pure Naked Moisturizing Body Wash in Marigold. I liked the body wash enough that I wanted to try another Method body wash, but this time I decided to try one of the foaming body washes. You don't often see self foaming body washes. I've seen and purchased plenty of hand soaps in that form, but never a body wash. So, I picked up Method Foaming Body Wash in Water Lily. They also had a few other scents: Sea Mist (think ocean breeze, salt and citrus), Ruby Orange (ripe berries and oranges), and Cucumber Mint. I chose the Water Lily, primarily because the color lol. But the scent sounded pleasant as well.
Here's a few points I obseved:
1) It's convenient! Since self foaming, you just pump it and you get a handful of suds ready to go. No need for a loofah!
2) Because it's self foaming, it doesn't last very long when washing yourself. So a little does not go a long way as with the other Method body wash I've used.
3) It's great that you don't have to use a loofah with this, but I like my loofah, and I feel like I get a better clean and exfoliation when using it. This foaming body wash doesn't last long on my loofah, so really I can't use it with this.
4) The scent is a little too floraly for me. I anticipated it would smell like flowers, of course, but it's kind of overpowering. I figured it would smell fresh and clean, but it just smells like flowers. Fortunately the scent doesn't last on my skin at all after washing it.
5) Despite containing Aloe and Vitamin E, it's not as moisturizing as I would like for it to be. I think this would be better suited for the summer time, when your skin typically isn't as easily dried out.
6) Even though you need quite a few pumps to fully wash your body, the body wash itself actually lasts pretty good. I barely have any gone from my bottle yet, despite using it every time I shower.
7) Adding onto #6, because it lasts awhile, you get a pretty good value for your money. This 18 oz bottle retails for $4.99, which is totally reasonable.
8) This body wash really does leave your skin feeling refreshed and clean, no residue is left on your skin after you wash it!
9) Method is a brand I trust and a brand that I use a lot of frequently in my daily life. All of my cleaning products are Method, as well as my hand soaps. So, I know the ingredients are natural and safe.
10) I like that the scents that Method offer for their products are all spring/summer scented items. So, if you're feeling a little down in the winter months, these scents should pep you right back up!
Overall, I would probably rate this 7 out of 10 stars. I would probably repurchase it, in a different scent, in like spring/summer. The other one, the Moisturizing one, is definitely better suited for these colder months because it makes my skin a little softer.
I absolutely recommend that you try out Method brand. I've never tried a product by them that I hated. Some were better than others but even still, they were all great. I swear by their cleaning products and I always buy their hand soap. Their prices are always fair. Stop by your local Target and check out all the goodies that Method has to offer!
This time of year, I feel like everything gets dry. Scrubs are an excellent way to remove that dry skin and reveal the fresh healthy skin underneath. One of the products in the November Petit Vour Beauty Box was Petal Polish by Kani. This is a face and neck scrub. There are a lot of great ingredients in this product, but the primary ingredients are brown sugar and rose oil. The scent of this highly reflects those ingredients, because it smells just like brown sugar mixed with rose oil. One of my favorite things about this was the smell. It was really amazing! I tried this both on my face, and on my body.
The texture: It's very grainy because it has a lot of brown sugar in it. The sugar is fine and because of that it's really gentle. It didn't cause any abrasive marks or redness, and it didn't sting or anything on my face or skin. It's thick, and moisturizing. You could really feel the oils mixed in with the sugar. Overall, I really enjoyed the texture of this.
On my face: When I used it on my face, I was in the middle of a crazy break out. I had hoped this would help remove excess dirt and oil and help my face balance out. This is product is supposed to moisturize your face by mimicking the natural moisture your face makes, so you don't make excess oil, and thus won't break out. However, I broke out more. I can't say if it's from this, or from whatever was happening to my face. But I only used it once, and didn't want to risk it again. So, I decided to use the rest on my body because I didn't want it to go to waste. You're supposed to apply it, leave it on for five to ten minutes, then gently massage it away.
On my body: I definitely preferred this on my body than on my face. I didn't let it just sit on my skin then rub the sugar in, considering when I did on my face almost all the sugar had dissolved before I had the chance to use it. So I gently massaged the scrub in circles on my legs, feet, and arms. I felt like I definitely got a better exfoliation that way. I used body wash on my arms afterwards, but didn't use body wash on my legs after, to determine A) if it really did make my skin more moisturized and B) to see if that film that it leaves would eventually dissolve. From what I gathered, my legs felt softer than my arms did, both right out of the shower and even after applying lotion. Also, that film did eventually absorb into my skin and it didn't take long for it to be absorbed. My legs still felt soft the next day as well.
The verdict: I don't think I would buy a full size of this. The full size of this is $28 and it comes in a 4 oz. recyclable glass jar. It's not that I don't think it's a good product because it is, but considering I didn't much care for it on my face and only used it on my body, it's not worth the price for me. I have a body scrub that was like $8 that I use that I like, so I'm not going to go out and spend $28 on one. You may like it better, so definitely check it out. They offer a sample size pouch for $10, so you can try it before you invest in a full size one. You can see the full range of products on their website!
Julep is a cruelty free company that offers vegan nail polish. I'm such a sucker for nail polish. It's one of my favorites. And when I see a sale on nail polish, AND free shipping, how can I say no? It's impossible. I have about 6 Julep colors already, and when I saw their sale, I knew I had to add a few more colors to my collection!
The colors you see above are 3 of 4 polishes I got. The black and cream color are part of a Halloween collection called Black Magic that includes a fiery orange red with silver glitter. That's not pictured above because I haven't used it yet. The purple I bought separately because it's purple. Out of all the nail polishes I own, I own more purple than anything since it's my favorite color. And if I'm being honest, one can never have too much purple in their lives!
Okay, so from left to right is: Jet, Vanna, and Margarita. All of Julep's colors are women's names, which is fun. Jet is a jet black creme. It's truly black, and it's so pretty. In addition to wearing purple frequently, I wear black almost as much. Black is a classy color that goes with everything, and Jet fits that bill perfectly! Next up is Vanna, which is a magnolia creme. I love that it's not a bright snow white. In my opinion, wearing plain bright white is a hard color to pull off no matter your skin tone. This is a muted cream white, and I love it so much more than I thought I would. Lastly is Margarita, which is a palace purple creme, and it is beautiful! Sometimes with darker shades of purple, when you apply 2-3 coats, they tend to look black, which personally I don't ever mind. This shade is purely purple. Even with two thick coats, it's still clearly purple. I purposely used Jet right next to this color so you can see that Jet is black and Margarita is purple. It's truly a beautiful shade of purple. Out of all the purples, dark purple is my favorite color and this is that color.
All of Julep's polishes are 5 free and vegan. They dry fast (when allowing the first coat to dry before applying the second coat), and allow 30% more oxygen to permeate the nail bed than regular polish. All their colors contain strengthening Hexanal and antioxidant green coffee extract!
My nails above are a little sloppy because I didn't get to clean them up yet, but I was too excited and wanted to show off the colors! Each shade I used 2 coats, and had a base and top coat on from Pacifica. While Julep's polish may dry faster than your average polish, as they claim, I don't have the time to paint one coat, wait forever for that to dry, then another, and wait, then a top coat, and wait. I have stuff to do lol. So my polish even still is pretty soft, but I really adore the colors. I used Margarita on my toes earlier this week, and they haven't chipped and they still look freshly painted! The colors retail for $14 each, but they have sales often enough that you can score some of their polishes for cheap! The Black Magic kit I got was $12.99, and Margarita was $4.99! Right now, they're offering free standard shipping on purchases over $10! Sign up for their emails, and you'll get notifications of when they're having sales!
I've been following Aubrey Organics since I received a sample of their hair spray in my Vegan Cuts box last year. They've been doing these giveaways on their Facebook page to win various items. I was fortunate enough to win a shaving cream of my choice! How exciting right?! I'm super excited to review it for you!
First off, here's some deets about Aubrey Organics: they're a cruelty free vegetarian company, with a lot of vegan products. They have labels on every product that tell you if it's vegetarian or vegan, so it's fool proof to differentiate between the two. They're organic and use only all natural ingredients. They use nothing artificial. That means that you won't find any: sulfates, parabens, silicones, PVP, mineral oil, phthalates, or artificial thickeners or colors. They make everything by hand in small batches of 50 gallons or less. They even have a dictionary on their website so if you see something you're unsure of, you can look it up, which is awesome. They've been featured in several well known magazines as well! They have a ton of products from hair care, to skin care, to face care, and even men's and baby products. All of their products come with 100% satisfaction guaranteed, so if you try something and hate it, you can get a refund or try something else! Win win!
When I won the giveaway, I got to choose the scent I wanted. I chose the Toasted Almond because it sounded like it would smell amazing! I was right, it does. However, it doesn't smell "toasted" to me. That doesn't change my mind about the scent, I still love it. It's a natural and subtly sweet smell. The scent doesn't last on your skin at all, so even if you hated it the scent, it wouldn't matter because you won't smell it after you're done shaving anyway.
As for the product itself, it is really creamy and rich. It's not a gel or a foam, it's a cream. If you have ever used Alba Botanica's Vanilla Mango shaving cream, it's almost the same consistency. This allows for a closer and more moisturizing shave than your average shaving product. You just want to make sure that you consistently rinse your razor while shaving because the texture of this product really sticks to it because it's thick. So, I did like two swipes, then rinsed, and so on and so forth until I was done shaving. Also, because of the thick consistency of this product, a little bit goes a long way. I used it on my armpits and my legs. My armpits I used about a dime size for each, and on my legs, I probably would say I used about a quarter size for each. Because it's thicker, it doesn't just wash off if you get some water on your leg, which is pretty awesome. It rinses off clean, and leaves no residue at all afterwards.
As you can see by the ingredients list, there are some really great ingredients for your skin in here. The coconut, jojoba, and olive oil definitely make your razor glide smoothly over your skin. I think those ingredients, mixed with the almond oil, are what made my skin feel so soft afterwards. I feel like I definitely got a closer shave with this than with what I usually use, which is my body wash. I shaved my legs on Thursday, and it's now Sunday and there's just a little bit of stubble. Usually, there's more than just a little stubble at this point. However, this product wasn't moisturizing enough for my skin that I could go without lotion after I shaved. I did still need to apply my regular lotion afterwards.
Overall, I am really happy with this shaving cream. I barely ever shave my legs, if I'm being honest, but I shave my armpits and whatnot every day, so using it for that this 4 oz bottle should last me a little while. I wish the bottle was a little bit bigger though. It's quite tiny, and it costs $5.77 for this 4 oz tube. It could be worse honestly, the price isn't awful. I never mind paying for a quality product with natural ingredients. I wouldn't pay less for a bigger bottle if it was just a bigger bottle of junk. If you're looking for a quality and natural shaving product, definitely check this out! Happy Shopping!
I wanted to share some exciting news with you guys! I've been writing this blog since May of last year. If you're reading this, you're probably one of five people and I want to say thank you for your support lol. I never wrote this blog with the intention of getting notoriety. I started this blog because I wanted to be able to share with everyone how easy it is to be a vegan, not just with food but with your beauty products as well.
I had stated before my mom has been my biggest advocate with everything in my life, and me being vegan has been no different. She has really helped me as far as networking, and was able to set me up with someone who owns a few commercial building in surrounding areas where I live. This woman has a newsletter that goes out each month to everyone in those buildings, and she enjoyed reading my blog so much that she asked me to write an article for the newsletter! She asked me to write about eating healthy in the New Year. I am beyond thrilled and grateful to have this opportunity. Whether it's an ongoing thing, or just this one article, it doesn't matter. The fact that someone asked me, regular old Ashley no one special, to write an article about healthy eating, that 100+/- people will be reading, that really means a lot to me. So, I wanted to post the article I wrote in here as well, because living a healthier life in 2016 should be something we all strive to do!
Christmas is a holiday filled with family, togetherness, fun, and food. So much food. Cookies, candies, chocolates, and big hefty meals. Then you have New Years Eve filled with friends, parties, drinks, and laughter. Then you wake up on New Years Day, and something amazing happens. After you get passed the grogginess from the night before, you realize that New Years is a day full of opportunity, positivity, and transformation. Every year when that ball drops and we welcome in a new year, we have a chance to make a positive change in ourselves. We make resolutions with the best of intentions, but they don't always make it to February. It takes 21 days to make or break a habit, which means some of you may be starting off strong now, but might fizzle as January comes to an end. If you resolved this year to make 2016 your healthiest year ever, I'm here to give you some tips on how to make that happen. Let's make this the year we not only stick to our resolutions, but we make those resolutions a way of life!
Tip #1: Eat a plant based diet as often as you can. You may recall an article that came out recently stating that processed meat (bacon, hot dogs, sausage, etc) causes cancer and that beef, pork, and lamb likely do too. Those are cold hard facts from the World Health Organization. There are so many meat replacement options, whether it's veggie burgers you find in the freezer section of your local food store, ones that you make from scratch in your kitchen, or tofu/seitan/tempeh, you've got several option. If you aren't already on a meatless diet, start small. Try Meatless Monday's, and vow to eat plant based on that day. Or, do one meatless meal a day. Start small and work your way up. There is a plant based alternative to every food you love, including meat and dairy. You just have to look! You can do this!
Tip #2: In keeping with tip #1, go dairy free as often as you can. I'm sure you remember those "milk does a body good commercials" but don't give into that hype. Milk is not for human consumption. Milk is for baby cows. There are plant based milks, such as: soy, almond (my favorite), cashew, coconut, and hemp. Almond milk, for example, is fortified with calcium and vitamin D, and the kind that I drink is even high in protein! They make yogurts, cheese, ice cream, Cocowhip (coconut Cool Whip essentially and it's amazing), and even cheese. Look for brands like So Delicious, Stoneyfield Organic Soy, Tofutti, Daiya, and even store brands like Nature's Promise by Giant.
Tip #3: Eat more fruits and veggies. This one may sound a little silly, but most of us aren't getting enough of either. The easiest way to increase your intake? Smoothies! The beauty of smoothies is you can put the whole kitchen sink in there if you want to. Fruits, veggies, non-dairy milk, non-dairy ice cream, legumes, nuts, seeds.. you name it and you can probably find a recipe for it. There's vegan protein powder you can add as well to turn your smoothie into a meal replacement. All you need is a blender, and it doesn't have to be a fancy one either, as long as it can crush ice you're golden!
Tip #4: Incorporate legumes, seeds, and nuts into your diet. You need fat in your diet, but you want the good fat that comes from nuts and avocados, not that comes from cake and potato chips. They're also high in fiber and protein. When I make a peanut butter and jelly for lunch, I sprinkle some sunflower seeds on it. I also sprinkle them in my quinoa. As little as a 1/4 cup of sunflower seeds adds 7 grams of protein to your diet. When I make mashed sweet potatoes, I add some pumpkin seeds in for a crunch. When I have a salad, I load it up with black beans and garbanzo beans, plus sunflower seeds. I mix a handful of nuts in with my smoothies. Make your own soup at home, and incorporate beans that way. Minestrone with veggie broth and kidney beans. White bean soup with potatoes and zucchini. There's so many easy recipes and I know you can find something you'll like. There's even a company called Beanitos that makes tortilla chips out of white beans and black beans. They're so good you won't realize you're not eating a real corn chip!
Tip #5: Get more physical activity in your life. This is the most dreaded one, I know. But once you incorporate physical activity into your routine, it's easier to stick with it. You don't even have to join a gym. There's tons of work out videos that you can find On Demand that you can do in the comfort of your own home. Or, do some squats and push ups during commercial breaks which your shows. All of us ladies have yoga pants, it's time to put them to some real actual use!
That's it! Five easy tips to a better and healthier you! Happy 2016 to everyone!
I know that eye oil has been all the rage for what seems like forever, but I'm going to be honest with you guys, I've never used it. Not even once. When I received this in my Petit Vour Beauty Box a few months ago, I truly didn't know if I would ever use it. I just never thought I had a need for eye oil. My under eye area is never dry or flaky. I don't have any fine lines. I get eczema patches on my eye lid and the corners of my eyes occasionally, but I didn't think eye oil would be a remedy for that. Plus, in keeping with my eczema, I have sensitive skin and I know how sensitive your eye skin is, so I was always afraid to use something so close to my eyes, not knowing if it would be gentle enough.
Once the New Year hit I went though all my makeup and beauty stuff and I was like, how did I get so much stuff?! I vowed to start using more of my stuff. I hate seeing things go to waste. So when I saw the eye oil I was like, let's do this. And guess what? I'm a believer! I can't believe I waited so long to use eye oil!
Here's the ingredient list, as written on their website: Ingredients: *jojoba & rosehip seed oils; Vitamin E; rose essential oil
*certified organic ingredient
With those simple ingredients, I'm not at all surprised by how gentle it is. Four simple and all natural ingredients. I know what all of them are, and that is so important to me. I've rubbed my eyes soon after I used it not remembering I put it on, and it was fine. My eyes didn't sting or anything. It absorbs really fast too, which is a bonus. It doesn't leave a greasy residue at all either. It also doesn't look greasy. It's very light weight which is why I think it absorbs so quickly and leaves no residue.
I also really love the way it smells! It's got a gentle and real rose scent, and it smells so pretty. Not fake roses, real authentic roses from the essential oils. I really like the small dropper that comes with it too. Literally one drop is enough for both eyes. This tiny bottle will last forever. This oil is so soothing! I rub it underneath my eyes, and the corner of my eyes, my eyelids, and up to my eyebrows. My skin is so soft after just one use, and it remained soft the entire next day even after I washed my face. I always thought that my eye skin was soft, but I didn't realize just how soft it could be until I used this eye oil. My under eye looks brighter and smoother from the oil. I don't use it in the morning, so I've never tried it under my makeup, but I use it every night after I wash my face.
I've seen enough good results from this eye oil to believe that it works. It's safe, gentle, and does exactly what it should. Whether you're an eye oil junkie, or a first timer like me, you're going to want to check this stuff out. There are two different sizes: a 5 ml for $18 and a 15 ml for $40. Truthfully, you probably won't need more than a 5 ml with how sparingly you need to use this. Happy Shopping friends!
I started by just putting a little on to see how my face would react. I was shocked to see that my face didn't turn into an oil slick. I was also so surprised to see how fast it absorbed. My face was seriously ridiculously soft in the spots I used it. I've only been putting it on between my eye brows, a little on my nose and around my nose near my cheeks, my upper lip, and my chin. That seems to be where I'm the driest. After I apply this and it absorbs, if I feel my cheeks compared to where I put this, my cheeks aren't as soft as the other areas. And the smoothness lasts, even the next morning. My face wash is meant to strip the oil from my skin because typically that's what I need. But this stuff makes replenishes what gets stripped. And even bigger bonus to this stuff? It makes my foundation look about 90% better. Even after wearing my makeup an entire work day, my face still doesn't get oily. As far as I'm concerned; this stuff is golden. If you have dry skin, or are going through a dry skin spell like I am, absolutely check this stuff out. This retails for $65 CAD, which is approximately $45.87 USD. I highly suggest you check out the Pelle Beauty website and get to shopping! You won't regret it!
Let's be honest with each other: everyone could use more fruits and veggies in their diet! One of the easiest ways to do that is with smoothies. You can put everything and the kitchen sink in a smoothie; fruits, veggies, juices, non-dairy milk, yogurt and/or ice cream, nuts, seeds, protein powder etc.. Not only that, they're fast to make and when packed with the right ingredients can even be a meal replacement. They can be sweet, savory, fruity, spicy, and everything in between.
This past Christmas my mother in law got me a blender for Christmas, something I have wanted forever so I could finally make my own smoothies. I have smoothie recipes for days that I have saved waiting to get a blender so I could use them! Here's the one she got me:
This blender in particular has two jars with travel lids so you can make your smoothie and go, which is super convenient. I didn't make a special trip to get stuff for my smoothie so I just used what I had in my kitchen. Here's what I used:
I just used a frozen berry medley, some OJ, and some spring mix. I didn't want to add any additional sweeteners because fruit has enough natural sugars. Plus, I enjoy the being able to taste my greens because I love my greens! I also put some ice cubes in there too.
As this is my first attempt at smooth making, in retrospect, I should've put my greens in first. Either it's me or the blender, but it always gets stuck and I have to turn it off, get a rubber spatula and mix it up and then turn it back on. I have to do this like 4-5x. Also, if you hold the button in instead of pulsing it, I really smell the rubber as it heats up. Either way, the end result is delicious.
I realized after I got done making it and put the jar in the sink, I forgot to take a photo of the final product. So I grabbed the first cup I could find, which is my Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel Valentine's Day mug, and took a photo of it in that. I know I could drink it from the jar, but I wanted to use my Hello Kitty tumbler cup, which I finally found after I put it in the mug lol.
The smoothie was delicious. I've actually made this exact smoothie several times now because I enjoyed it so much. It's like a cup of sunshine in the morning. I can taste the greens but it's not overbearing. It's subtly sweet and fruity. It's delicious!
Tabby was super excited for a smoothie too lol.
